You can buy seeds to plant at Nook's Cranny, but did you know that you could cross-breed them to acquire special color variants of your favorite flowers? Let's now look at and rank the ten best flowers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, from roses to lilies, and everything in between.

10 Orange Cosmos

Orange cosmos are rather easily obtainable as they can be produced by simply cross-breeding red and white cosmos which can both be found in Nook's Cranny on any given week. The reason they're nice is that it takes the typical sunflower shape that's recognizable and gives it a pop of color with the orange. These things can be used to spruce up summertime areas as well as accents when you're looking to makeover your island as a Halloween getaway. They're called cosmos because their beauty is out of this world.

9 White Windflowers

White windflowers take no more effort than buying their seeds from the shop, but boy do they happen to be pretty. The stark whiteness in pairing with the black accents makes them pop off of the screen. As most of the flowers in the game, they also happen to have non-flat coloring and provide a bit of texture on their surface. Things don't need to be complicated or hard to get to be beautiful and white windflowers are a perfect example of this line of thinking.

8 Black Lilies

Black roses will be discussed later on in this list, but they don't hold a candle to black lilies when it comes to representing the darker side of flower aesthetics. They're the type of flower that works best in a graveyard due to their weeping willow adjacent look and feel.

Black roses may give off similar vibes but are still very beautiful to look at. Lilies on the other hand are gorgeous because they're not the typical flower shape and planting a group of black lilies can pull together a Gothic island theme like no other.

7 Orange Roses

When you clicked on this list you likely assumed that black roses would make the cut, but if you are excited for Halloween, how could you not anticipate orange roses making it as well? Pairing them with one another is a quick and easy way to imbue your island with Halloween spirit. Roses are great for expressing color in Animal Crossing because they are so large and come in a unified color that's expressed clearly on its rather large surface area. If you're growing black roses, don't forget to make some orange ones as well. October is right around the corner.

6 Purple Tulips

Purple tulips aren't the easiest flowers to acquire as they require a two-step process when it comes to cross-breeding for hybrid variants. You must first have red and yellow tulips that produce two orange tulip offspring that can be used with one another. These two orange tulips will then have the ability to breed with one another and spawn a purple tulip. All you have to do is water flowers and be patient, so do yourself a favor and work towards getting a handful of purple tulips produced.

5 Blue Windflowers

The combination of blue and black is a normally masculine aesthetic that's quite popular. Blue also happens to be a rather popular color in which millions of people have their favorite shade. Blue windflowers happen to be quite vibrant and help in making the black center a true focal point.

They're spawned by the breeding of two white windflowers, which if you read an earlier entry you know are also quite pleasing to look at. Placing white and blue windflowers in creative patterns can result in some eye-popping gardens.

4 Pink Tulips

Are pink tulips hard to come by? Well, the answer to that is a simple and resounding no. They happen to be the hybrid offspring of red and white tulips, so there's not a whole lot that needs to be done on your part aside from buying the seeds and watering the plants. Some would argue that tulips are accent flowers that look best when paired with other flowers, which is something to think about when you get to relocating your abundance of pink tulips. Try pairing them with other pink flowers, or maybe contrast them alongside something blue.

3 Black Roses

If you've seen a Gothic or vampire film than you're already familiar with the appeal of black roses. It talks an often brightly beautiful object like the red rose and imbues it with a darker vibe and brings together the feelings of both life and death. You may be the type of person who only wears the color black, and if that feeling extends to how you decorate your island in Animal Crossing than black roses might be your best option. You get all of the beauty of a rose, without the overbearing cascade of color.

2 Lily Of The Valley

The lily of the valley, not to be confused with the regular lilies in the game, is a reward given to the player for acquiring and sustaining a 5-star rating for their island. If you're unsure about the rating of your island simply head over to residential services and talk to Isabelle. Select the dialogue option about island evaluations and she'll provide you with more information. Isabelle will let you know what's hampering down your rating so you can improve it and hopefully obtain plenty of lilies of the valley.

1 Gold Roses

Gold roses happen to be some of the hardest flowers in the game to obtain, but once you get them you finally feel like you've completed your Animal Crossing journey. After going through the process of obtaining black roses, which was talked about earlier, you then have another task on your hand. You must water your black roses with a gold watering can, which can only be crafted via the recipe you acquire after turning your island into a 5-star getaway. It's a lengthy process, but the gold roses are worth every second.
