Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game that has a little something for everyone. And with its nearly bi-weekly updates, it's getting new content all of the time—and almost all of it is free. However, there is one piece of content that has been free but wasn't originally supposed to be. That's why Nintendo has announced that the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Amiibo poster catalog bug (which allowed you to get posters without buying cards) has been fixed.

The Animal Crossing Amiibo cards were meant to be physically collected (like all other Amiibo products) and would then give you in-game benefits—in this case, posters. Since April, though, these posters have been free to get, without the need to buy the cards. There was an exploit that allowed you to catalog the posters from a friend's island and then order them from Nook's shop.

Fans often wondered if this actually was a bug, as you had to search for the posters in the shop, rather than finding them in the normal interface, as you would with other items. Of course, this also massively devalued the cards since the singular benefit of having one had been removed. Animal Crossing's official Japanese language Twitter handle confirmed that this indeed was a bug and has been patched.

The translated tweet talks about bugs in the 1.5 version of the game and reads, "In addition, we have received many inquiries that 'you can no longer order posters of animals that you have obtained once at Tanuki Shopping', but here we ordered posters other than animals that you have invited to the shooting studio. This is due to the correction of the problems that can be made, and the operation is normal." While Google's translation of Japanese may leave something to be desired, the meaning remains the same: You'll need the Ambiio cards to get the posters.

The patch came just a week after Nintendo announced that they were going to be restocking the main series of cards in November. It would be safe to say, then, that the patch is intended to drive sales of the Ambiio cards—which is also the point of the posters. That being said, some players are upset that this bug was left alone for six months before being patched.

Nintendo hadn't even mentioned the bug before patching it but, all-in-all, it's a minor blip in an otherwise fun and engaging game. Still, we hope that Nintendo will at least tell us whether something is a bug or not in the future.
