The Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons adds a wealth of new housing features for budding designers that enable you to go all-out with your creativity. You'll unlock partition walls fairly early on, but you might notice that these walls don't join together well when creating right angles.

Fortunately, there is a way around this — pillars. Pillars can be used to join partition walls and divide up any given space more accurately. Additionally, island counters can be used to divide a room up while still retaining some of the open-room aesthetic. Here's how you get both of these nifty little features.

What Are Pillars And Island Counters?

What are Pillars?

You've likely already noticed that if you try to join two partition walls at a right angle, you are left with an unsightly gap between the two. However, by placing pillars, you can join these walls together with a much neater finish, as shown in the above comparison.

You can use partition walls and pillars to create individual rooms in housing designs, in fact, you can get creative and create walls out of lots of pillars in succession instead of using partition walls if you wish to.

Pillars are available in light, natural, and dark wood variations.

What are Island Counters?

Island counters allow you to divide up any given space without placing full-size walls, so it leaves the area still feeling open and bright. Island counters come in two different sizes and you can place items on top of them, so you can choose which works best for each design.

This means you can get really creative with designs, for example, creating open kitchens that join with the living room across an island counter.
