How to Find Mahi-Mahi

If you're looking to catch the mahi-mahi, make your way to the pier. Both of the two new ocean fish can be found here, so there's a chance you may catch the giant trevally as well. Both the mahi-mahi and giant trevally each have very large shadows, and they can be found at any time of day.

However, the giant trevally is a very rare fish, and while the mahi-mahi is more common, it's still considered to be rare. This means that you will likely be reeling in more sea bass than anything until you get lucky.

Players in the southern hemisphere should note that the mahi-mahi left at the end of April and won't return until November. For players in the northern hemisphere, you have until October to catch it.

The best way to catch any fish is by luring them over with some bait. Dig up manila clams from your beaches and take them to a DIY workbench to craft fish bait. Keep in mind how much pocket space you want to leave open as you craft, as fish bait only stacks up to 10.

Once you have some bait, toss it into the water off the pier until a very large shadow appears. From there, fish as you normally would. Once the mahi-mahi is caught, you can donate it to the museum, or sell it at Nook's Cranny for 6,000 bells.

Alternatively, you can continue fishing for multiple mahi-mahi and save them for when C.J. visits your island. He can make figures of any fish, provided you have at least three or more in your pockets. It will arrive in the mail the following day and can be placed in your house or anywhere on the island. Note that C.J.'s partner, Flick, can do the same with bugs. If you're into decorative taxidermy, be sure to check him out as well.
