If there's one thing that Animal Crossing is known for, it's the vast amount of customization that can go into every part of the relaxing, debt-filled experience. No one town or island will end up being the same as another, due to the massive amount of personalization that goes into living your best, virtual life.

One feature that has become a staple of Animal Crossing is custom designs, which have, over time, become more easily accessible to spice up clothing, wallpaper, flooring, paintings, and whatever else you can slap a design onto with your own personal flare. With tools to turn images into patterns, and having them be all over the internet with the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, here are the ten funniest ones that we could find.

Updated on July 1st, 2020 by Anastasia Maillot: After a few months of New Horizons craze, the community has absolutely exploded with cool custom codes and patterns. While most codes are great for bringing a bit more realism into island life, other codes are just there as witty and funny pop culture references.

If designing patterns sounds like a tedious and all too difficult task, not to worry. There are hundreds upon hundreds of funny patterns that bring memes to life in the world of New Horizons, ideal for small details or even for making a unique meme art gallery. Here are five additional designs guaranteed to spice up any island and make visitors giggle at the sight of them.

20 Surprised Pikachu

In the depths of the internet, the surprised Pikachu face has become one of the most popular memes due to how relatable that face is. It's the surprise we feel, but don't really feel, when something we should have expected to happen comes to pass. If only there was a reaction for this in the game itself!

Creator Mochilla decided to recreate this relatable expression in the form of a custom pattern, which is perfect for signs in particular. It would make for great centerpiece art at any meme-loving player's house as well.

19 Nook With An Earring

It's great that Animal Crossing is incorporating actual art into the game through Redd, and is actually encouraging players to recognize real art from fake. In a way, it's a fantastic tool to educate people on the importance of real art and preserving it. However, sometimes players might wish for art closer to the style of Animal Crossing.

It's probably why creator Kim decided to make this incredibly gorgeous painting inspired by the actual Girl with a Pearl Earring painting. Except, in this one, it's Tom Nook posing for the picture.

18 Shrek

Shrek is easily one of the most iconic movies of the last twenty years. It not only defined an era of music to the tune of Smash Mouth, but also its memes. It defied everything people knew about fantasy movies through Disney and nailed it.

Creator ~pepsi~ wanted to immortalize the feel of Shrek in this hilarious and yet incredibly detailed custom code featuring Shrek's smirking face. No matter where the player decides to put this pattern, it's guaranteed to draw a reaction from island visitors.

17 Hellmo

Although Animal Crossing can be an escape from the real world, sometimes it's also a great avenue to express frustrations, whether it's through destroying the island by digging countless holes or by hanging a poster of a burning, hellish Elmo.

Creator Jackie successfully captured the apocalyptic and catastrophic feel of Elmo in this custom design piece. It's perfect for any player wanting to add some flair to their island and let others know how they really feel.

16 Polite Cat

Classic memes are totally worth preserving in Animal Crossing's signature style. Whether it's to include Twitch emotes or more traditional internet memes, it's like using a common language that any internet user will understand no matter where they come from. The polite cat and his complacently straight smile is one of them.

Although an older pattern, it's still timeless and functional. Created by Mel, it's one of the more realistic creations, with actual coloring and shading as inspired by the original meme. It might look out of place in-game, but it's worth having this cat's face plastered everywhere.

15 PogChamp

14

To curb the disappointment of a lack of a "Pog" emotion within New Horizons, this custom pattern is here to be displayed across your beautiful island landscape. Now, with the introduction of the Nook Phone, you can express the most genuine of emotions by quickly switching to your patented PogChamp tee-shirt.

Or, perhaps, that small patch of land in front of your airport is looking a little too barren and uneventful, so you decide to greet your precious visitors with your world-famous PogChamp-flavored grass.

13 K.K. Pinup

12

Any player with a music-player in their humble abode most likely has a K.K Slider song playing in the background while decorating and organizing, so why not show your love and affection towards the famous musician with this lovely painting?

K.K has the suave and grace to easily pull off a dramatic pose like this, and it isn't hard to imagine this being the cover of his next song, K.K Romance. Or, if you're just a huge fan, it makes for quite the attractive wallpaper as well.

11 Blood Splatter

These patterns come in all different shapes and forms, and can quickly turn your island paradise into a horror movie. These are also quite easy to make as well and can be placed all over your island to creep out your next visitors. If only axes were customizable, this pattern could be slapped onto them and scare off anyone who dares come near.

They make for quite dramatic scenery, and can really spice up the basement of your newly paid-off home. Since custom designs can be placed outside as well, we finally have a good reason for Gulliver's body washing up onshore. He can't be getting lost that many times, right?

10 Bold & Brash

9

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a fantastic game for any artist to express themselves through stylish clothing and immaculate paintings, but no art gallery is complete without a replica of "Bold and Brash" by Squidward Tentacles.

Sure, anyone can convert the Mona Lisa or Starry Night into a painting and place it on their wall, but those with a true eye for the arts will greatly appreciate this piece. Paintings can also be displayed on easels outdoors, and this would make the great centerpiece to an outdoor art gallery.

8 Gun

7

Is your E for Everyone island a little too peaceful? Well, have we got the pattern for you! This works as a great defense mechanism to deter any friendly visitors from stealing your precious fruits, as this can be placed by every tree in the area to ward off any fruit-hungry thieves.

This pattern also works exceptionally well alongside other patterns, such as placing it on the wall or floor next to something that really shouldn't be holding a gun. Isabelle, we know you've been hanging with DoomGuy recently, but there are no demons here to worry about.

6 Hot Bod

Workout equipment has been a furniture staple in Animal Crossing for quite some time now, but it sadly goes to waste with the lack of ways to show off your hard-earned muscles. But, with this smartly-crafted long-sleeve shirt, you can have villagers staring in awe at your risk of being arrested for nudity in a kid's game.

The only shortcoming of this pattern is the skin-tone, as New Horizons now has a multitude of skin color options to choose from, so this one might require a bit of tweaking to be accurate.

5 Minecraft Blocks

With walls and floors, both able to be fully replaced by the player, the possibility for a room made entirely of Minecraft blocks is a simple task to achieve. By having a wall or floor with a base made of stone, wood, or any block of your choice, that opens up the possibility for all kinds of Minecraft-style fun.

There are three blocks and an item shown here, but virtually anything from Minecraft could easily be converted into a custom design and fit right in alongside all of the ores and items you can place to your heart's content.

4 Taco Bell

There is an infinite number of choices for your colorful flag to be raised above resident services and display your island's culture, but for anyone looking to cosplay as the ruler of Taco Bell's official island getaway, this custom design is a necessity.

With this design flown high above your island, billowing in the wind with pride, villagers will inevitably flock to your island. Visiting Nook's Cranny will reveal their now abundant stash of chalupas and Baja Blasts causing the island's economy to boom.

3 Relationship Status: Gamer

2

This painting/shirt design speaks for itself in showing that gamers transcend any and all social norms or expectations. When playing Animal Crossing, simple human needs such as love and affection no longer apply, as making your own personal fortune by stuffing 30 tarantulas into the Nook's Cranny box is the only important thing in life.

The human world is full of pain and suffering, and Animal Crossing is the only true reality. On your island getaway, catching a meaningful human relationship is simply outweighed by the need for catching hundreds upon hundreds of rare fish to rule your chunk of land with the most economic power imaginable.

1 Splat Tim

With how common squids are to catch in New Horizons, most players have likely seen the cheeky Splatoon references to make catching the tenth squid in a row a little less infuriating. It's nice to see Animal Crossing make frequent references to other Nintendo titles, and it's sure to make your next fishing experience Off the Hook.

What better way to celebrate this collaboration between two Nintendo franchises than with Splatoon's most infamous character, Splat Tim? He's neither a kid nor a squid, but an absolute legend that deserves to be framed on your empty wall. So what are you waiting for? Download him (and everything else on this list) to make your island even better!
