Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now one of the most popular Switch titles in existence. With the newest update comes the re-introduction of the art section of the museum. The art exhibit wouldn't be complete without the shady fox Redd to sell you art, either.

Unlike in previous games, though, getting Redd to work with you and having the art gallery will take a bit of work. Even the system used to help you make smart purchases from Redd has been overhauled for the Switch. To help players get their art exhibits up and running we have laid out everything you need to know about the museum expansion and Redd.

10 The Expansion Doesn't Happen Immediately

Once the update is installed, you can head over to the museum. You will likely notice that there isn't anything actually added on at first. When you talk to Blathers, he states that he would love to add an art gallery, but in order to do it, he would first need something to display.

He will ask you to come back to him when you find a piece of art to donate to the museum.

9 You Won't Be Able to Enter Redd's Ship at First

When Redd arrives at your island for the first time, there will be a special announcement. Isabelle will inform you that there is a sketchy individual who has been seen around the island. Instead of using your dock, Redd will place his ship at the back of your island on the secret beach.

When you go up to the ship, you will be told it looks sketchy and that you should get permission to enter.

8 Redd Will Wander Around Your Island

To get onto the ship, you will first need to find Redd. On his first visit, he will randomly wander around your island, much like a villager. When you find him, he will start to talk to you about being cousins. After a bit of conversation, he will offer you an art piece for millions of bells.

When you turn it down, he will lower the price, allowing you to buy your first piece.

7 You Have To Wait a Day For The Upgrade

Once you have bought the art piece from Redd, head over to the museum. Once there, you will have an option to show Blathers the painting. He will be impressed that you found a classic work of art and inform you that the museum will be going through renovations.

This will take a day to complete, but afterward, you will have access to the gallery.

6 Redd Appears Randomly

Redd isn't a storeowner that stays put on your island. Instead, he will randomly pop up during the week. Like other shops, it doesn't seem like Redd will show up on Fridays once you have unlocked K. K. Slider, or on Sundays when Daisey Mae is in town. When he does appear, your shopping is a bit limited.

You can only buy one art piece from Redd per visit, meaning it will take you quite some time to complete the gallery.

5 Redd Sells Fake Art

If you haven't played the previous games, then you may be surprised to learn that Redd isn't as generous as he seems. In fact, Redd isn't trying to help you in any way and stocks his inventory with counterfeit paintings. These paintings all have minor details that make them worthless.

In order to not get ripped off, you will need to look out for anything that looks out of place on the piece.

4 You Can Examine Art Pieces

Luckily, the game allows you to examine the art pieces. You can choose to zoom in and look up and down to detect any anomalies. Most art pieces that are fake will have glaring mistakes like out of place jewelry, missing eyes, or even coffee stains. While some fakes are convincing, most aren't.

You don't have to be an art major to pick out which paintings are real, just make sure to look at each one.

3 All Art Costs The Same Price

To make picking out the fakes even harder, Redd charges the same price for all art pieces in his shop. Each piece costs exactly 4,980 bells, and this price never seems to go up or down. Even the very first painting you buy from him while he is wandering your town will have this price.

There are always four pieces of art being sold by Redd at once.

2 Redd Overprices Furniture

Redd tells you that to make up for his limited art buying program, he will sell you all the furniture you want. This, of course, like many things involving Redd, is a complete scam. Unless you are just losing your mind to get your hands on a particular piece of furniture, avoid buying from him.

The prices of each piece of furniture will be grossly inflated by the crafty fox.

1 Paintings Are Delivered The Next Day

To cause even more anxiety about your art choice, Redd makes you wait to receive your purchase. All art pieces are delivered via next day mail, and the letter states that all sales are final. This makes the process of buying and donating art even slower for the player.

It also adds extra clutter to your mailbox, which can be twice as annoying if you get a fake piece.
