Fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons have been eagerly awaiting today's update. After promises of new seasonal events, visitors, and clothing, the excitement was high — until players got their mail. A letter, coming through to in-game mailboxes, informed gamers that the Bank of Nook has reduced its interest rates, a move that was entirely unexpected.

The letter was received by all players and included a bell bag rug to soften the blow. For those who aren't fans of having huge bag-shaped decor items in their home, the good news is that it sells for 6000 bells.

For those who hadn't realized, interest is paid out on the last day of each month based on the savings in your Nook Inc. account. Depositing all your bells into savings before the month ended ensured a nice bonus for players taking advantage of the savings system.

At present, there's no way of knowing how much the rates have been reduced but this is thought to be a measure taken to counter players using time travel to accrue large interest payments. Although we're unsure why Nintendo has chosen this route to combat wealth imbalance, instead of tweaking the Stalk Market. The stalk market is currently the easiest way to earn vast amounts of bells. It allows players to earn 4-6 times their investment each week by buying turnips each Sunday then traveling to other islands to sell their stockpile for a huge profit.

Today's patch marks the beginning of the Nature Day event and has added Leif and Redd to the list of island visitors. Players also received a world map poster in the mail, alongside the rug. For those who want to look their best while repping Nook Inc. there are two new Nook Inc. aloha shirts now available in the Nook Store.

Nature day has brought with it special Nook Miles+ quests that reward extra miles each day for completing environment-related tasks. Once you've finished the first quest be sure to speak to Tom Nook to receive the DIY recipe for a hedge fence. He's still being somewhat generous, even if he has slashed interest rates.
