We've all done it at this point. Somewhere down the line in our Animal Crossing: New Horizons playthroughs, a villager we really really wanted turned up at the campsite, and we kicked out another faithful islander to make some room for them. Maybe we even kept resetting until we convinced the ugliest one to pack their bags and leave. It feels awful, but it needs to be done.

Well, it turns out they have better memories than previously seen, and remember their time on the island after all. Old villagers are turning up at The Roost following the latest update, and will recall their time with the player if you chat with them.

Of course, this would already happen if you shipped the villager off to a friend's island, and went to visit them that way. But if you bumped into them on an island tour, they would have no clue who you were. That very much isn't the case in the new update, however, as players are being confronted with their sins in the museum cafe.

If you're really desperate to meet some old buds and make amends, they can be summoned to The Roost by picking up their Amiibo cards. The fact that the version you summon will be the very same who used to live on your island went completely unannounced, and was found by players exploring the brand new update.

While the features that were officially confirmed in the Nintendo Direct had fans excited enough, it's these unrevealed ones that have players really engaged. One of the best found so far has to be the fact that DIY recipes can finally be put in storage, no longer taking up floor space if you don't want to chuck them out. The cosmetics have also been a hit, with players praising the new Black hairstyles following months of few options.

The last Animal Crossing: New Horizons update is live now, and the Happy Home Paradise DLC launched today.
