Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the latest entry in the animal-influenced getaway experience, has taken the gaming world by storm in 2020. The series has not only seen a return of its tremendous fandom, but it is also seeing record numbers in terms of new players entering the world of Animal Crossing for the very first time.

As these new players continue to play, they'll begin to notice the varied personality types among the animal villagers. Let's now take a look at and rank all eight personality types in the Animal Crossing franchise.

8 Cranky

Choosing between cranky and snooty personalities as the worst in the Animal Crossing series is a matter of preference. Do you find people who are often irritable irritating? Or perhaps those who present themselves as self-centered or prideful grind your gears?

Either way, it's up to you to find which bothers you more while at the same time doing your research. Cranky villagers can open up to players and bring with that brighter energy. They love to gossip about other villagers, so you may also want to avoid them at all costs.

7 Snooty

When you first come across snooty villagers, you might assume that they're self-centered simply because of how they present themselves as very prideful individuals. You'll find by talking to them that they tend to be the most mature and level-headed of all the villagers.

Snooty villagers don't get along with many of the other personality types, which can completely throw off the vibe of your island community. You never know though, you might find a snooty villager worth the effort if you look hard enough.

6 Smug

The smug personality type is the newest addition to the series, which in turn means they're highly sought after. They happen to be the polite, scholarly, and gentleman-like residents who most people will enjoy the company of, but they can also come off as conceited in some instances.

Smug villagers are also ready and willing to flirt at a moment's notice, so, hopefully, that doesn't bring you discomfort. As the series goes on look for smug villagers to be expanded upon and likely move up this list in terms of general likability.

5 Lazy

Later in this list, we'll get into why having someone more active than you can help push you towards a healthier life. On the opposite end of that spectrum, it can also be helpful to have people who are lazier than you around.

Not only do they make you feel more active by comparison, but they can also show you how important balance can be. Lazy villagers are laid-back and enjoy relaxing and taking life a day at a time. Their confidence is palpable and most players will find these villagers to be the most relatable.

4 Sisterly/Uchi

The personality type known as sisterly/Uchi is newer to the series and was introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. The neat thing with this type is that players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will start with one on their island towards the beginning part of their adventure on the island getaway provided by Tom Nook.

These villagers aren't afraid to speak their mind and will showcase how blunt and straightforward they can be, but don't let that worry you. Sisterly villagers are caring towards the player and will often express that sentiment.

3 Normal

Being normal or average often gets criticized in entertainment, but there's nothing wrong with vanilla ice cream. Normal personality type villagers tend to fall on the happier side of things and can show a focus on cleaning themselves as well as their homes.

Unlike jocks, they don't focus on their physical appearance, which can come off awkwardly depending on how often they use self-deprecating humor. Normal villagers are pretty common and easy to come by so chances are you already have one on your island.

2 Jock

Jock personalities coming in so high on this list may be controversial to some, but jocks bring a lot of good aspects to your island. Everyone likely has a friend that works out and stays fit in a way that they don't, and if you don't that friend may be you.

Jock villagers make you want to be better as they're often focused on self-improvement in some capacity. Don't ever expect them to discuss friendships or interactions with other villagers, as most of the talking they do is centered on what's happening with them specifically.

1 Peppy

Animal Crossing, as a franchise, is often seen as a joyous vacation from real-world stresses and is meant to be an escape for many people. That's why peppy villagers are so vital to your experience in the game. They are the characters who are often friendly and excited to talk to you any chance they get.

Peppy villagers also have a strong tendency to apologize, but, if you can overlook this flaw, you'll be happily surprised at the positive energy they'll bring to your island getaway each and every day.
