Consistently, games like League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Fortnite have been among the most-viewed games on the streaming platform. Today, however, League of Legends was been toppled as the second most-watched game on Twitch by Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Currently, the game has about 237 thousand viewers, which still puts it ahead Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fortnite, and Doom Eternal. League of Legends has since reclaimed its position at second place with 264 thousand viewers.
Earlier on Friday, Animal Crossing: New Horizons stood above League of Legends in viewership at 229 thousand viewers. League of Legends, on the other hand, had 228 thousand viewers.
Given League of Legends' consistent standing as one of the most-watched games on Twitch, it's fairly impressive that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was able to topple it. Although not one of Nintendo's most iconic series, Animal Crossing is clearly beloved by many Nintendo fans as proven by its viewership on Twitch.
Above all of Twitch's most-watched games, however, is Call of Duty: Warzone. The game, which released on March 10, is a large-scale free-to-play Call of Duty installment in the style of battle royale. It comes as little surprise that this is atop Twitch's most-watched games, as Call of Duty titles are generally extremely popular multiplayer titles and have high viewership all-around.
With regards to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game has been well-received by and large and is among Nintendo's most high-profile releases this year. The popular simulation title has added several new elements to its quirky gameplay and boasts the most polished Animal Crossing experience thus far in the series.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons' launch coincides with that of Doom Eternal, the much-anticipated follow-up to 2016's Doom reboot. Doom Eternal has also received positive reviews all-around. Both it and Animal Crossing: New Horizons have been part of a collection of crossover art combining the two games. In either case, both would be valuable ways to spend one's time during this period of time.
