It's fantastic to see developers putting limited time events into cartridge games, especially ones like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, whose gameplay has the possibility to get a little stale over time. How many times can you plant flowers, catch fish and pull weeds before you're ready to pull out your own hair? Speaking of weeds, after nineteen years, Nintendo has finally given you a way to make a profit from that pesky useless grass.

With the recent patch updateNew Horizons introduced Leif, a sloth with a green thumb. Chat with him and you'll see he not only sells flower seeds but will pay a premium double price for your weeds. Don't get excited yet though, as it is unclear if this is just for the duration of the Nature Day event. Plus with the introduction of hedge fencing, you might want to think twice before you fork over those weeds.

Like other DIY projects, the hedge fencing requires a certain amount of weeds and it can really spruce up your islands appearance and in turn, the island rating. This makes the weeds worth more to invest than exchanging them for quick bells, as the islands rating can affect so many factors. A high rating can unlock the terraforming feature, which allows you to change the actual geographic layout of the island. Eventually it will give you access to upgraded design apps, the gold watering can and other factors worth pursuing.

So make sure you build what you can with weeds before selling the excess to Leif. Once you do, feel free to make use of the little juggalo sloth to make some nice money and get rid of waste.

The idea of easy money in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is welcome, what with Tom Nook constantly dropping those loans and fees on us. But it's important to consider investments that will lead to a long term income in the game too, both in bells and in the quality of your island. Take care of the land, and it'll take care of you too.
