The latest Anthem patch has somehow made the game’s stingy loot system even worse.

If there’s one thing that Anthem players can agree on it’s that the game’s loot system sucks. Specifically, it seems like the game is unwilling to let go of even the most basic of high-tier loot unless you’re willing to grind away for 10 or more hours for that lucky drop.

It’s so bad that Anthem players even held a boycott earlier this month. It must have sent the right message to BioWare since the latest 1.04 patch addresses some of the game’s lingering concerns regarding loot.

According to the patch notes, Anthem has added a few new ways to get loot, starting with daily Legendary Missions that allow players to replay critical path missions at a higher difficulty level. There’s also Elysian chests that contain crafting materials as well as special vanity items to customize your Javelin.

Additionally, chests in Strongholds, regular missions, and free play have a chance to drop “additional items and crafting materials”, while on GM1 difficulty and higher, “Stronghold bosses will now drop more loot with a chance at additional masterwork and legendary items.”

So this all sounds great and just what Anthem needs to make players happy. The only problem is, Anthem players are reporting that we haven’t entered the loot bonanza as the patch notes seem to advertise.

According to a post by Reddit user Dredgen1994, what was written in the patch notes isn’t what is happening in-game. They report that Stronghold bosses no longer guarantee a masterwork-level drop and that they got 4 purple-rarity items from doing a run against The Monitor on GM2 difficulty.

Worse still, those “new items” in free play and Stronghold chests have been replaced by embers, something that veteran players quickly gain an abundance of and have no further use for.

There’s also reports in the comments that those new Elysian Chests have a bug where sometimes you use a key to open the chest, but the chest doesn’t open. Meanwhile, the key is still gone from your inventory.

Since these reports all seem to contradict the patch notes, we’re thinking these are some pretty awful bugs. It wouldn’t be the first time BioWare screwed up Anthem’s loot tables on a new patch, but at least the last time it happened it caused loot to shower from every random mob you blew up.
