Anthem’s breadth of content and the lush, expansive setting of Bastion have a serious depth to them that even the most dedicated players are still struggling to uncover. And you can't really blame them, being presented with such an array of missions, challenges, collectibles and of course, the Hidden Places – you know, those optional mini-dungeons that you can stumble across during Freeplay.

The point is that there's an awful lot of content to miss, and whether it’s a silly easter egg, a hidden challenge, or an obscure bit of lore, the sharp-eyed and inquisitive Freelancer is sure to find something new with every expedition for a long time to come, and still manage to gloss over some juicy little tidbit or secret. Hey, it happens. There's an awful lot of Bastion for a fresh-faced Freelancer to take in all at once, after all.

But, if just so happen to be looking for more stuff along those lines to discover, then you've found the right place. Here are fifteen of the coolest, less than obvious bits and pieces of the game players tend to miss, along with a checklist of ten lucrative Hidden Places tucked away within Anthem.

25 Anthem’s Secret Language

via: imgur.com (astralproxy)

On the wall near Yarrow in Fort Tarsis, you can see a set of glyphs and images that are clearly telling a story of sorts, and the Anthem community has taken note. They're far too lengthy and detailed to be meaningless, but don't seem to be written in any recognizable language.

Efforts to translate and make sense of the characters are still ongoing, with comparisons being made to Japanese Katakana in terms of structure. Hopefully, with BioWare's reputation for deep storytelling, those efforts will end up paying off!

24 HIDDEN PLACE: The Dungeon

via: gamerant.com

This one can be a little tricky to track down, though it's really no bother if you're given just a little direction. For starters, it's located in the Fortress of Dawn area, so that's where you're going to want to be.

It's west and just a hair north from the landmark itself. Just keep an eye out for a few sets of stone steps winding their way through some ruins and you're golden. There's a small wealth of materials inside, with a few organic, mineral, and salvage gathering points, as well as a chest.

23 Hidden Chests Near Fort Tarsis

via: gamepur.com

If you're setting out to farm chests, these should be your first two stops. And they're right under your nose! As you set out on a Freeplay expedition, just move a bit east along the defensive wall and look down, you should see an outcropping with a turret placed on it. Land on that outcropping and on the eastern edge will be your first chest. Convenient!

Afterward, take a very short flight to the northwest from that location. You shouldn't have much trouble locating the huge waterfall there. Follow it all the way down and into the water, diving to the bottom to come face to face with another lovely box of loot.

22 Konami Code Menu Music Change

via: youtube,com (Cheese Forever)

Paying homage to a classic and long-lived video game easter egg, BioWare saw fit to reward players that were curious enough to enter the famed Konami code during the menu screen.

Doing so will alter the menu's theme music to a simplified and stripped down version of the theme that resembles a chiptune. It actually sounds pretty awesome, like you're booting up an old SNES era Final Fantasy game. If you want to check it out yourself, just remember: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A!

21 HIDDEN PLACE: The Bane Engine

via: artstation.com (Ignacio Guajardo Unanue)

The Bane Engine, which could easily double as a cool name for a heavy metal act, can be found in the region of Monument Watch, southwest from the titular Monument itself. The interior is pretty impressive.

You'll encounter Scar in here, as well as a legendary boss - an enforcer, most likely, so gear up to fight something big and tanky. You'll find a smattering of mineral gathering points dotted around inside, but nothing to write home about in terms of materials.

20 Secret Strider Player Hub

via: reddit.com (u/adrianmignogna)

Players often dig into games that they love to see what bits of cut content they ended up missing out on in the final release. What happens a bit less often is players managing to actually access that content in the finished product.

The latter is precisely what happened when players began to produce a bug that allowed them inside one of the big mechanical Striders during Freeplay – and what they found was a fully functional player hub, where you can conveniently access missions, your Javelin's equipment, and more, much like the Launch Bay in Fort Tarsis. Why BioWare elected not to include this is unclear, and it's possible that this is content that may find its way into the game at large in the future.

19 Cortex Collectible: Rules for Civilized Use of Shared Space

Via: GamingBolt

This is easily one of the more hilarious bits of extra lore that you'll come across while strolling through Fort Tarsis, written by what one can only assume is an irate roommate, prescribing several household rules. Some of them make sense, like forbidding loud music during working hours. They get pretty interesting though, specifically concerning the correct way to use a pickle and accusations of pen theft.

This collectible unlocks in Fort Tarsis once you've completed the mission "Incursion," and is located in one of the newly unlocked areas. Just keep an eye out for an NPC named "Bard" and snoop around his immediate area.

18 HIDDEN PLACE: The Necropolis

via: gameplay.tips

You'll find this one in East Gate, a short journey west from the mining platform. Outlaws have a tendency to hole up here, and you'll likely encounter not one, but two legendary Lancers among them to spice things up, so you may want a friend or two in tow. You know, just in case.

The area also boasts a whopping eleven mineral gathering points, which is pretty impressive on its own, so this place is an absolute must if you find yourself in need of them.

17 The Champion Of Tarsis (Gold Paint Quest)

via: tentonhammer.com

If you're wanting to get your hands on some shiny gold paint to show off your Javelin's elite status, you're going to need to earn it the hard way by unlocking what some players are referring to as the hardest quest in the game, The Champion of Tarsis. To unlock it, you'll need to complete all of the loyalty challenges – that's for all three factions in the game. And it's going to take a while.

To complete it you'll need to grind out a whopping 50,000 faction points for each faction, which is pretty crazy. But the rewards are extensive, showering you with Masterwork blueprints as well as your coveted cosmetic, the gold paint.

16 HIDDEN PLACE: The Foundry

via: artstation.com (Christian Clark, BioWare)

The Foundry is situated within the Emerald Abyss, located a stone's throw southeast from the West Valve. This is another known hangout for Outlaws, and they're captained by a legendary Outlaw Lancer that you'll have the pleasure of meeting. And eliminating, of course.

You can dig up four organic gathering points here, which while not fantastic compared to others, had may as well be hit while you're here. Hey, it beats nothing. And you're sure to get something out of the boss encounter anyway.

15 Clam Before the Storm (Hidden Challenge)

via: youtube.com (Hunter_the_Huntsman)

While grinding challenges, you may have noticed a particular entry under the "Bastion Collectibles" tab that is labeled simply "???," with no further hints as to what you're looking for, or where.

If aimlessly combing the world for that collectible sounds a little too tedious for you, get into your Storm Javelin, then head for the Sunken Gardens landmark in the Ruins of Shadowmark region. Dive into the nearby water and swim straight down, keeping an eye out for a passageway as you reach the bottom. Inside, you'll find your target – a gigantic clam. Just swim up to it, and you have... a clam before the Storm. Get it? Because... you know, the Javelin and all that? BioWare has the puns.

14 HIDDEN PLACE: Sovereign Mine

via: gameshedge.com

The Sovereign Mine is tucked away in the Ruins of Shadowmark, and is known to be inhabited by Dominion troops. Head east from the Sunken Gardens if you're looking to make a visit. It's built into the side of a hill, and isn't hard to spot from the air.

You might find yourself facing a legendary Storm Brute for the boss encounter, and they don't tend to joke around. There are also at least two mineral gathering points as well as a salvage point to rummage through while you're here.

13 Fort Tarsis Changes With Your Loyalty

via: segmentnext.com

Leveling up your loyalty with Bastion's active factions will not only shower you with a ton of great loot, blueprints, and coins, but will gradually lead to small, aesthetic improvements across Fort Tarsis that really need to be appreciated.

Some of them can be pretty minor, like the fountain being cleaned up and decorated with the Arcanists. Others are less subtle, like the spare javelin near Haluk when you increase your Freelancer loyalty. Either way, make sure to check in around the Fort whenever you advance a faction level to really take in the impact your support has on its development.

12 HIDDEN PLACE: The Vault

via: origin.com

Yet another hidden place located within the Ruins of Shadowmark, this Dominion-guarded area definitely lives up to its name. It contains no less than eleven organic gathering points, as well as four of the mineral variety.

To get there, set out east from the Sunken Gardens, dive into the big lake and keep your eyes peeled for the entrance tunnel. It's pretty hard to miss once you're under the water.

11 Scar Drills Leave Behind Loot Tunnels

via: anthem.fandom.com

You'd be surprised how many people don't tend to notice, but whenever you destroy a Scar drill, you can explore the tunnel that it leaves behind. Pay close attention whenever you encounter these, or you might miss out. On what, you ask? Or maybe you don't ask. Either way, I'm going to tell you.

Well, it just so happens that these tunnels are usually packed full of loot and can contain chests to open. So that should lend some urgency and incentive to checking them out when presented with the opportunity.

10 HIDDEN PLACE: The Haven

via: bgr.com

In the Valley of Tarsis, look around for the big, imposing Freelancer statue and head for the waterfalls across from it. Just poke around behind them and you should locate this hidden place.

You're likely to encounter Skorpions inside, but as far as I can tell the area doesn't have a boss. Still, help yourself to the nine organic and four mineral gathering points inside while you're fending off the wildlife. Definitely enough to cover the trouble of getting here, and then some.

9 Finding Titans & World Events

via: youtube.com (ZaFrostPet)

There's a ton of incentive to track down world events in Freeplay, whether you're grinding experience, challenges or faction loyalty, their rewards can do you a lot of good. Titans are big, bad boss monsters you'll encounter and take down for both bragging rights and the loot involved. But what do they have in common?

Well, they only spawn in certain locations on the map. If you know where these locations are, then you can grind them more effectively! As usual, the community has pulled through here, and there are several maps available so you can plan your routes during Freeplay.

8 HIDDEN PLACE: The Shrine

via: digitaltrends.com

You'll locate the Shrine in Eastern Reach, nestled somewhere between the Hate Engine and Convector Henge. It hosts enemy Outlaws, capped off by a legendary Outlaw Lancer. But you should be used to dealing with these guys by now!

Hidden away inside are ten mineral gathering points, as well as a salvage point and a lovely little chest. It's hidden underwater, so take care not to miss it and the valuable loot it contains.

7 Hidden Collectible: Respect My Process

via: youtube.com (Hollow)

To accompany another collectible on this list, "The Rules of Civilized Use Of Shared Spaces," is this heartfelt response to the mentioned list of complaints that someone has posted in reference to a less than ideal roommate situation. And it's written by said roommate, who ardently defends their "creative process," but acknowledges what they refer to as "the pickle incident."

This collectible is also unlocked after completing the mission "Incursion," and you'll find it by walking past Bard in the newly unlocked area, then turning to the left. You should be able to find this entry pinned to a gate nearby.

6 There Are Several Post-Credits Scenes

via: youtube.com (Shirrako)

Once you've beaten the critical path and the credits are rolling, make like you would with a Marvel movie and stick around afterward, otherwise, you'll miss out on some important details that might be foreshadowing upcoming content.

Once the credits have passed and you've sat through three cutscenes, one final bit of exposition takes place in which you learn the Urgoth, long thought gone from Bastion, have emerged with unknown intentions. Tassyn leaves you with an ominous, "We'll be in touch," followed by a wink, all but ensuring this will be crucial in coming content.
