Those waiting for cross-progression to come to Apex Legends will unfortunately have to wait a little bit longer as the feature isn't expected to arrive until at least next year. Director of Communications Ryan Rigney recently explained during a Reddit AMA that there have been pretty substatantial problems getting in the way of cross-progression coming to the game, describing them as "gnarly as hell."

Rigney then explains the problem in more detail, claiming that technical issues and legal issues have also been major roadblocks:

"It's not only that you have to solve the technical challenge of merging existing accounts, but there are also legal and contractual issues to navigate with purchasing on other platforms," explains Rigney. "Different regions have different laws. It's a mess. But we're working on it, and we're committed to delivering it."

Another possible reason for the delay could also be down to the hack that took place at the beginning of last month. Apex Legends was hacked to display the message "SaveTitanfall" in an attempt to get Respawn to take notice of the issues surrounding the original Titanfall, an event which Apex Legends director Chad Grenier claims delayed work on cross-progression.

As for what else Respawn is working on at the moment, the next-gen update for Apex Legends is apparently on track. Rigney explains in the same Reddit AMA that there's currently no updates on when the update will launch, but that it's currently in the works and that the Apex Legends team is excited about it.

While we don't know much about what the next-gen upgrade of Apex Legends will being to the game, we do know that Respawn is aiming for 120fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X and that hitting that goal is a "high priority." There's no telling what else Respawn has cooking for the next-gen launch other than it will undoubtedly look better and feel smoother.

Thankfully, Apex players have the new Emergence update to tide them over until then, bringing with it a new legend in Seer, who is already confirmed to be getting nerfed after the devs admitted the legend is "too strong right now."
