EA and Respawn's insanely popular battle royale game Apex Legends will be receiving a limited time "Duos" mode next week. Cutting down the team count from three to two, duos has been hotly requested ever since Apex launched earlier this year. With the shooter already experimenting with a "Solo" option in August, it was only a matter of time before duos made its way into the mix.

Duos will launch for Apex Legends on November 5, 2019. There's no telling how long it will stick around, so make sure to boot up your games and get fragging. It's bound to be a bit harder to nab a victory now that your team size is cut by 33%.

Apex Legends launched to incredible success earlier this year. Shadow dropped during a random Livestream, the title quickly amassed a fortune for EA and has even become the company's number one title for the year. After the relative failure of Anthem, it's clear EA is looking to put all of its attention on Respawn's darling.

The only real complain one could have lobbied at Apex is that it lacks content. Throughout the year, though, Respawn has been steadily tweaking gun balance, including new characters, and even working on additional maps for players. These limited-time modes are another way in which the developer is maintaining interest in Apex. It's definitely come a long way since release.

It might seem odd that a shooter built around the idea of three-man squads is introducing modes away from that, but this is all in the name of giving players options. Even if it gets away from the design philosophy of Apex, it's better to have options than none at all.

Duos may not become a permanent fixture for Apex, but it's bound to be a mode that many will flock to. That Fornite and PUBG prominently feature it may force Respawn to consider adding it into the rotation more often. Despite its free price, Apex features some of the best gunplay on the market and its general polish is much higher than the competition. That, alone, is reason enough to get excited about events like this.
