There are a lot of great ways to promote a game, but the best way by far is to transform fans into a robotic mercenary that's programmed to follow the orders of corporate overlords. However, since technological limitations get in the way of that, the creators of Apex Legends released an Instagram filter that turns fans into Revenant -- so, pretty much the same thing.

The filter, which can be accessed here, overlays a 3D model of the character onto the user's face, and plays quotes from the game whenever the user gets close to the screen.

The filter also follows your eye movements, so if you ever wanted a picture of Revenant rolling his eyes at something, you're in luck.

Unfortunately, it doesn't do anything to match your other facial expressions, which makes sense since Revenant has a metal robot face, but it's disappointing nonetheless. Also, it doesn't seem to let you go cross-eyed, which strikes us as an unfortunate oversight.

The promotion comes as Apex Legends moves into its fourth season, introducing the legend Revenant, as well as new features and abilities. According to the character's backstory, Revenant used to be a human before Mercenary Syndicate and Hammond Robotics turned him into a "walking nightmare of steel and vestigal flesh."

He swore vengeance against Hammond Robotics for what they did to him, and when the corporation returned to the Outlands, he had hopes of destroying everyone involved with the company.

If the Instagram filter is canonical, Revenant also takes a mean selfie.

Apex Legends Season 4 has already started, so anyone not satisfied with simply taking pictures of Revenant can hop into the game right now and try him out. The new season has also introduced a Sentinel Sniper Rifle, changed parts of the game's maps, and balanced a few things, according to its patch notes.
