The limited-time Iron Crown event is now live in Apex Legends, introducing a solo mode, new cosmetic items, and double XP to help you grind those tier levels.

Limited-Time Mode – Solos

For the first time, players will be able to break away from the normal three-person squad experience. This has been something that players have asked for in the past, but it can be problematic when developers add too many modes to a game since it can fracture the player base and make queue times longer.

For now, Solo mode will only be around for a limited time. In its recent blog, developer Respawn Entertainment hinted at a long-term plan that might see the mode become something more. “It's too early to say whether Solos will be permanent or not, but we're going to watch and see what happens. As always, we want to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think,” it said.

Octane Town Takeover

As part of the plan to incorporate the various personalities of all of the Legends into the game, Octane has taken over a part of Kings Canyon and added his own personal flair. You can head to the mega jump pad course and the Ring of Fire to attack your opponents from above. As always, Respawn will be listening to player feedback to determine if these kinds of crossovers merit more attention in the future.

However, there has been some controversy over how these packs are acquired. Several players are upset with Respawn Entertainment, and by association EA. Since the items are part of a randomized loot table, players cannot select which cosmetic they want, and purchasing all of the items amounts to around $154.

If players want only one specific skin, they will need to spend about $7 per Iron Crown Pack. This differs from games like Fortnitein which items are clearly shown in the store and no randomization is involved.

Double Top 5 and Wins XP Weekend

From August 16 through to August 19, players will be able to earn double XP for any Top 5 finishes and wins. This bonus will affect both Account Level and Battle Pass progression, making this an ideal time to jump back into the action if you have been away.

Apex Legends is free to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
