Apex Legends is finally launching on Nintendo Switch. It may have taken just over two years, but in less than a week we’re due to be welcoming one of the most modern and popular battle royale games on the handheld system, allowing people everywhere to get some Apex Legends in on the go. Assuming you can find a stable WiFi connection. There’s always a catch with these things…

No matter what kind of gamer you are currently, you owe it to yourself to give Apex Legends a shot when it launches on Nintendo Switch, least of all because it’s a free download, and saying no to something that’s free is not what Nintendo gamers are about.

This fast-paced battle royale is by far the most approachable of the larger BR games, and it’s a perfect game to get started with. But before you download it there’s a bunch of things you’ll need to know, like the launch date, how big the game size is, whether you can play crossplay with friends, and much more. For all of that, just read on below so you can discover everything you need about Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch.

Release Date

Apex Legends will launch on Nintendo Switch on March 9 globally, finally offering those who prefer a small-console experience the chance to play Apex Legends. At long last!

Game Size

Fuse in Apex Legends

This is always a point of contention for Nintendo Switch owners - we all know that Call of Duty is struggling to fit its relevant games onto a 500GB PS4, but on Nintendo Switch we only have 32GB of storage space to wrangle with by default.

Apex Legends will take up 25GB on your Nintendo Switch, so you can fit it onto your console without an SD card expansion, but you should probably get an SD card to download this game.

Crossplay Support

Yes, you will be able to play Apex Legends on Switch with your friends who are playing on PS4, Xbox One, and even PC - a relief, I’m sure. Crossplay support has been included in the game for a while, and this is just another way to play with your Apex Legends pals.

Cross Save And Progression

As of right now, there is no way to continue playing the same Apex Legends account across multiple devices. My account, complete with all of my battle pass skins and achievements, is locked to the PlayStation ecosystem, sadly.

There’s hope that Respawn will soon unite your Apex account across all of your devices, but currently it’s not possible. Fingers crossed I get that option before I make too much progress on Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Switch Online Subscription Required?

Trios in Apex Legends

Currently you need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play games online - save for games like Fortnite. Apex Legends supports the Save Data Cloud function of Nintendo Switch Online, which hosts your save data online - obviously. The product page for Apex Legends does state that “Applicable platform account and platform subscription (sold separately) may be required” but as Fortnite is available to play on Nintendo Switch without a subscription, I’m going to make the assumption that Apex Legends will also not require it. At least, that’s my guess until we can test it for ourselves.
