Octane is a fun character, but needs a boost to make him competitive. He was the first new character released in Apex Legends Season 1, and since then, he's remained mostly untouched. While he has his admirers, he isn't as competitive as some of the other legends.

Octane is a stuntman who lives for speed. His tactical ability is a stim that allows him to move 30% faster for six seconds. The stim has a short cooldown period of only two seconds, but it unfortunately drains 10 health, so its use is limited. His tactical ability is the jump pad, which allows him and other players to be launched into the air to cover distances or scale heights. Octane's passive ability is health regeneration, which restores at one health every two seconds.

Thanks to his speed and mobility, Octane has the potential to cause chaos on the battlefield and can easily chase down other teams. He's also adept at getting out of sticky situations by using his stim and his jump pad. Additionally, his small size makes him a hard target, especially when moving at speed. Despite all his advantages, he still doesn't make it to the top tier of the legends in the game. Characters like Wraith, Gibraltar, and Bangalore can single-handedly change the dynamics of a firefight and Pathfinder has way more mobility.  In comparison, Octane's abilities seem a bit weak and don't benefit the team as a whole.

One of the ways to make him more competitive would be to make all his actions faster when using the stim. This means he'll be able to reload, heal, and recharge his shields faster for the six-second duration. Another way to improve him is by reducing the amount of health that gets lost when he uses the stim. If it gets reduced from 10 to 5, it will allow him to use the stim more than once in a battle while still retaining some health. Bangalore's passive gives her 30% extra speed, and Bloodhound's ultimate gives him a 25% speed boost. It may be worth increasing Octane's stim speed to 40% to make him the real speed king.

The jump pad has its uses, sure, but still doesn't compare to the other legends' ultimates. One way to improve it would be to allow Octane to double-jump when using it. He'd then be able to change direction in the air, and also reach higher ledges and buildings. Another idea is to allow the jump pad to give him different paths - depending on whether he is sliding, running, or jumping on it.

Revenant recently received a much-needed buff, and the Respawn developers have confirmed that there's a buff for Mirage in the pipeline. Hopefully, they will eventually turn their attention to Octane and allow him to achieve his full potential.
