Boasting over a whopping 50 million players after only its first month of release, Apex Legends remains one of the best FPS out there. Residing in the Titanfall universe, the game superbly blends an Overwatch-esque hero-based shooter with Battle Royale rules.
With such a hectic, action-oriented game and a pretty massive, often overwhelming scope, it can be tough for the newcomer to find their footing and claw their way to the top of the heap. Recent updates have tried to alleviate the daunting task on new players with the addition of the expanded shooting range and Orientation Mode. These tips will help you become a pro in no time.

14 Learn How To Dive And Travel Further
So you're diving headfirst out of your dropship with your squad, soaring through the sky in an exhilarating fashion. While it may seem like you're falling fast, you might notice that some around you are landing faster, meaning they're grabbing all that sweet loot nearby before you can.
Thankfully, there's a way to nudge this crucial speed advantage in your favour, at least slightly. Simply aim down to plummet and gather your speed to roughly 145 mph, and then level off to glide at a shallower angle. Once you've slowed to somewhere in the 130 mph range, fall sharply again. Rinse and Repeat. This proves especially useful if you're aiming to reach distant drop points, as you'll cover a lot of ground quickly.
13 Legends With The Fortified Perk Have Extra Survivability

When Apex first launched, hitboxes were different for each character. To compensate for this, the passive effects of Low Profile and Fortified were introduced. The big re-balance patch, Revelry, did away with the significant hitbox discrepancy between Legends, and now Legend size barely influences the game.
With that said, the bigger Legends such as Newcastle, Caustic, and anyone taller than a typical Legend, retains the Fortified perk. The most important thing to know about this is it reduces all incoming damage to that Legend by 15 percent. This means you will naturally have a higher TTK (time to kill) than others, making bigger Legends a good choice for survivability.
12 Always Scan Care Packages As Pathfinder
Pathfinder has a unique Passive that lets him fully recharge his Zipline Ultimate when they use the Class Perk to reveal Care Package contents. This used to be tied to scanning Survey Beacons to reveal the next ring location, but it has been reworked when Legend Classes were given an overhaul.
Pathfinder can no longer scan survey beacons for the next ring intel – this ability now belongs to Controller-type Legends – but as a Skirmisher, Pathfinder can simply look directly at a falling Care Package to reveal what's inside it. Upon doing so, Pathfinder's Ultimate will fully recharge, letting you get multiple ziplines on the go if you use it just before revealing the care package items.
11 Wraith's Tactical Activates Immediately When Used During Her Ultimate
When you normally activate Wraith's Into the Void Tactical skill, she will have a wind-up before phasing. While phasing, Wraith gets a considerable speed boost and cannot be hurt for the duration.
One nifty perk with Wraith is when you use her Ultimate to place two portals if you activate her Tactical while placing the Portals, she will use it immediately and travel even faster for the duration. You can exploit this to aid squad members to travel far distances with your portal while covering crazy distances yourself just by running with these abilities triggered.
10 Apex Legends Does Not Have Bullet Damage Drop-Off

Surprisingly, Apex Legend features no damage drop-off with any of its weapons (aside from the Havoc). Yes, even a pistol will puncture your opponent several yards in the distance. This is provided you're able to hit them, as the accuracy will still get worse at range.
This means that you can take advantage of weapons that pack a punch like the Wingman and the Peacekeeper, even from afar. So, while typical long-range options like snipers will still give you a closer look and a more accurate shot, you can still exploit the lack of damage drop-off and use other weapons at a distance.
9 You Can Move While You Loot Death Boxes
Yes, those purple or gold downed-played boxes may be enticing, but stopping for prolonged periods to loot them can make you more vulnerable as you'll be stationary and preoccupied. Thus, you may want to shuffle around back and forth a bit as you're looting, which will make you a tougher target to hit, especially if you're looting out in the open.
This is a bit trickier to pull off for the console versions of Apex, since you'll have to coordinate scrolling through lists with the right joystick while shifting using the Dpad simultaneously. Still, it could mean the difference between life and elimination. This is significantly easier to do on the PC version using a keyboard and mouse.
8 Play Mixtape To Familiarise Yourself With The Game
Apex Legends is a Battle Royale game at heart, and Respawn Entertainment has finally caved to add in more multiplayer modes. The competitive Arenas mode is no longer around, but it has been replaced by various multiplayer modes that are now on a permanent rotation.
Control, Team Deathmatch, and Gun Run are all low-stakes game modes where you can get to grips with the gunplay of Apex. These modes used to be limited-time events, but they are now here to stay. See what works for you, see what doesn't, and apply it in the Battle Royale mode. All of this will help you be a better player. Unlike the Battle Royale mode, dying doesn't mean losing the entire game, so have fun and throw caution to the wind.
7 Using Finishers On Knocked Enemies Restores Shields
The stylish combat finishers each Legend has can be amusing to pull off, especially if foes are protecting themselves with that pesky Knockdown Shield. Generally speaking, you should always consider your surroundings before doing a Finishers, since they leave you defenceless.
However, if you manage to get on off in time, it can be the difference between getting killed by any other people still around you. Killing a knocked enemy with a finisher will immediately restore a portion of your shields, letting you stay in the fight in a pinch. They're fun to do and are more than a little extra jab at the person you beat. Just keep an eye out when you do them.
6 Climbing And Mantling Walls Will Get You Places
Wall climbing may seem like a simple concept to those well-versed in games featuring 3D movement, but there are a few quirks to Apex's physics that many may not be aware of. Not only can you hop and climb a wall to reach a high post, but you can climb far higher and cover more ground without falling than the game lets on.
To do this, simply keep on running as you're climbing, and you'll continue to scurry up the wall for at least a few seconds. A neat little side note – you can also remain hanging off the side of walls, which serves as a sneaky method of scouting areas, hiding, or blindsiding any squads potentially setting camp on roofs.
5 Get Rid Of Pesky UI Clutter
This is more of a subtle, indirect technique, but it can significantly help increase your visibility. Using it can make you more effective and sharp in battle by wiping away excessive clutter.
It will get some of that pesky text out of your way, reducing it in size and shrinking it down. Though you'll want to have a pretty solid grasp of your loot when doing so, as the flip side of this is that you'll be given less information. To do this, just go into the gameplay settings and switch the "interact prompt style" to "compact."
4 Destroy Loot Ticks And Cargo Bots
No, these odd little insect-like bots aren't just for show. In fact, they yield a handful of high-tier loot, the rarity of which is revealed by whether they glow purple or gold. These triangular robotic crawlers are mostly found hiding in the corners of buildings or on top of roofs.
Punch or shoot them to bust them open and gather your goods, like a robotic piñata. They can be tough to locate, but you can listen closely for mechanical sounds they'll make when close. You'll find Cargo Bots flying through the sky on some maps. Shoot them when they flash Gold to get the best loot.
3 Pay Attention To Your Class Perks
As of the Revelry update in Apex Legends, a huge overhaul of nearly every Legend was introduced. This reworked how the Class feature operated, bringing substantial changes to how you play as a certain Legend. While classes didn't mean much previously, Respawn firmly identified five classes and put each Legend into one of them.
The classes are Assault, Skirmisher, Recon, Support, and Controller. Assault Legends can open hidden compartments on red-coloured weapon supply bins and carry an extra stack of ammo. Controllers can scan for the next ring, Support Legends can craft ally expired or unrecovered ally banners, and get more loot from blue Supply Bins, Skirmishers can spot what weapon is inside a care package, and Recon Legends can use Survey Beacon to scan the entire map and show enemy locations for 30 seconds.
2 Slide Often
Over time, sliding can make a difference in getting from point A to point B at a quicker pace. And in a frantic game like Apex, speed and mobility are crucial elements to nudging the odds in your favour. Basically, you'll want to incorporate slides into your movement as often as possible. Of course, sliding down slopes is the most effective.
Though even on flat surfaces, you'll find that sliding for a few seconds will grant you a slight boost in speed. Slide in short bursts like this as you run, continue to run for several more seconds to regain momentum, and slide again. Rinse and repeat. Frequent slides also make you a tougher target to hit. Make sure to jump after a slide to get back on your feet faster and go further.
1 Always Ping Everything You Can
Communication and positioning are crucial in Apex. The ping system in the game is one of the best you'll ever see, and you should use it to properly communicate with your team if you're not using voice chat or playing with other friends.
Are you going to loot an area? Tell your friends with a ping. Do you think another team is nearby or in front? Don't keep that information to yourself. Pinging in Apex Legends will ensure your team is up-to-date and ready for anything that might come your way.
