When Season 5: Fortune’s Favor dropped for Apex Legends earlier this month – Kings Canyon received a huge makeover. One of the lesser-known changes, however, was the addition of conditional Legend chatter. The voice talent behind Apex's characters is fantastic, and some of their additional lines deserve more attention. Here are some of the best (and most revealing) lines that Respawn cooked up for the new season.
The Loba / Revenant Dynamic
Revenant assassinated Loba's parents so needless to say, there's some bad blood between the two. Although Loba often refers to Revenant as a demon, her lines are fairly tame.
Revenant, on the other hand, has no chill at all. He regularly mocks Loba's late parents. “Didn’t your parents teach you any manners?” and “Isn’t this interesting? Too bad your parents aren’t alive to see this” are among his lowest blows. The taunt Revenant uses when an allied Loba becomes Kill Leader is particularly brutal: "You're Kill Leader Loba? Hah. I have at least two kills over ya – mommy and daddy." Ouch.
The Wattson / Caustic Dynamic
Conditional Legend chatter between Wattson and Caustic brings a surprisingly endearing dynamic to the table. The tweet above reveals an emotional voice line that Wattson can state when reviving Caustic. She also has a few other wholesome lines with the scientist: "Hold on Dr. Caustic. We scientists must stick together!" and "Just the two of us now, Dr. Caustic. Team science, for the win!"
Many are speculating about Caustic's potential innocence, complicating his original stereotype as a death-obsessed psychopath. Multiple lines between the two imply that there really is more to Caustic than meets the eye. When resurrected by the gas-wielding character, Wattson says, "Thank you Doctor Caustic. See? You're not as inhuman as they say you are" and "Thank you Doctor. I knew you couldn't be as bad as everyone says."
Miscellaneous
Mirage's voice actor, Roger Craig Smith, is a fan favorite. Some of his best additions include: "Care package. They found you Crypto, run! Hah-hah, I'm just busting your pork-chops you paranoid weirdo." and "Ah, if the scary murder-bot doesn't want to say 'thank you,' scary murder-bot doesn't have to! Heh, please don't kill me." There are plenty of other lines to discover too, so make sure you pay close attention throughout your Season 5 games. Overall, the writers and voice talent behind Season 5 is outstanding. It feels like I discover a new phrase from one of the Legends every time I play. From amusing to insightful, conditional Legend chatter is a subtle-yet-creative way to add even more depth to the world of Apex Legends.
