Rampart's Passive Ability

Rampart's passive ability is pretty straightforward and gives the legend a huge buff when handling miniguns or LMGs. If Rampart equips an LMG or minigun, their passive ability will increase the magazine size/heat capacity and make reloads/recharges faster. Don't overlook this passive ability – it can e used to its full advantage as you become your squad's main line of defense. This buff makes Rampart a heavy weapons expert that will prove useful across numerous firefights, and solo encounters against enemies using the same heavy weapons. Take note that the magazine buff will coincide with extended magazine attachments, meaning Rampart can lay down cover fire for days.

Rampart's Tactical Ability

Rampart's tactical ability solidifies the legend as a defensive asset that can help your squad lock down any position, and raise hell for anybody trying to flank you. The amped cover ability allows Rampart to place up to five deployable covers at a given time. While these deployable shield block incoming fire, what makes them unique is that they amp outgoing fire for you and your team. When paired with Rampart's passive ability, this deployable cover is the best asset in laying down cover fire for your squadmates, and making sure anybody in your line of sight is ripped to shreds.

The amped cover shield, not the metal base, has a durability of roughly 160 HP, while the metal frame is around 350 HP. Take these calculations with a grain of salt until more players in the community do tests, or if any patches address this durability. While the shields are not going to stop everything, they do provide quick cover that turns your defense into a valuable offense. Do note that the shield does not amplify legend abilities, the only exception being Rampart's ultimate. Players might be tempted to stack the deployable covers, like placing several in a row but do note that the amplified damage buff will not accumulate, and this is a waste of protection.

While blocking bullets is the shield's intended purpose, players can also use the shield to block doors similar to other legend abilities. Block a door with a shield, hold a tight corner, and anyone that tries to come in will get stalled, and walk into a volley of amped bullets. If you are feeling heroic, you can run up and place a deployable cover in front of a downed teammate to protect them and provide covering fire while another teammate swoops in for the revive.

Rampart's Ultimate Ability

While defense is the name of the game, Rampart is anything but passive, and her ultimate ability really lets you know that. With Sheila, players deploy a minigun with high ammo capacity and great damage. The deployable minigun has roughly 400 HP, making it quite a durable piece of equipment that nobody will want to take head-on. While any player can use Rampart's minigun, it is best for Rampart to use the minigun as her ability allows for her to have buffed handling for the ultimate.

Players should pair this ultimate with Rampart's amped shields to increase damage potential, and hopefully rack up damage in the thousands. It is best to use this ultimate to secure the high ground, vantage points, indoor spaces, or put pressure on enemies cooped up in a building from afar. Take advantage of the high damage output from the minigun to also destroy doors in your way, and pressure enemies to ditch their cover.

Rampart Weaknesses and Team Synergy Tips

While Rampart is fun to use, this legend is not without their share of weaknesses that the enemy can exploit. Be wary of grenades. You can have amped covers deployed, but a barrage of grenades will force you to rebuild in another location. It should go without saying, but remember these deployable shields cover incoming fire from the front, anything from above still poses a threat. Also, be wary of Crypto and his ultimate ability as he will quickly shut down your defenses. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, and make sure to have a backup plan when your shields are broken.

To make the most out of Rampart's abilities, you can pair her with Caustic and Wattson to become quite an annoying opponent. With caustics traps, they can be laid out behind or next to shields to deter enemies from pushing too close. Wattson can quickly fill the gaps between deployable shields to create a ring of defense. Likewise, inside buildings, this team will be quite annoying to deal with as they can lock down corners, block doors, and hunker down for a long time. How you play Rampart is up to you. Whether playing conservatively or aggressively, Rampart is a force to be reckoned with.
