Jeff Strain – founder of ArenaNet and Undead Labs – today announced the creation of Possibility Space. The new development studio hosts talented former employees from Valve, Ubisoft, Insomniac, Double Fine, EA, and more, and is looking to craft "shared human experiences" while also "continuously pushing the envelope on modern gaming technology and the expectations of what a game can be."

It's currently unclear what the studio's first title will be, although it has more than enough talent to pique our interest. The entire team is distributed around the globe, with a central pillar of Possibility Space being a decentralized workspace that lets employees live and work wherever they please.

“We felt this was the right time to create something new–a studio built from the ground up to embrace evolving needs and perspectives for both players and developers,” Strain said. “Like many others, the past year and a half has been a fraught time for me. While I am grateful that my family is safe, the anxiety, fear, and isolation of the last 18 months has been almost unbearable at times. That fear and isolation was the catalyst for Possibility Space, a modern kind of game studio, where we are creating a joyful game that’s been my dream for many years. I’m delighted and grateful for the team that has chosen to share in this vision and bring it life.”

Joining Strain at the new studio is an impressive list of talent, including:

  • Jane Ng - Visual Director (Campo Santo, Valve)
  • Austin Walker - IP Director (Waypoint Media)
  • Liz England - Simulation and Narrative Systems Director (Ubisoft, Insomniac)
  • Richard Forge - Design Director (Undead Labs, ProbablyMonsters)
  • Brandon Dillon - VP of Engineering (Oculus, Double Fine)
  • Lean Rivera - Senior Narrative Systems Designer (Undead Labs, ArenaNet)
  • Charles Randall - Senior Gameplay Engineer (Ubisoft, BioWare)
  • Erica Tam - Senior Gameplay Engineer (EA, Oculus)

While the team is distributed around the world, Possibly Space has an office in New Orleans, LA that will serve as a hub for training and hiring underserved communities in the gaming space.
