Studio Wildcard announced Ark 2 during The Game Awards tonight. The game is a sequel to the massively popular survival-crafting game Ark: Survival Evolved and will star Vin Diesel.

The sequel was revealed in an extended cinematic trailer that featured a prehistoric Vin Diesel in a life or death battle against orc-like creatures and dinosaurs. DIesel's character outruns the dinosaur and rescues a young girl — the only survivor of his tribe. He then enters a cave and discovers futuristic technology (or tek) and it's revealed to be a trailer for Ark 2.

After, a trailer debuted for a previously unannounced animated series based on Ark. The anime-esque series will feature an impressive cast that includes Michelle Yeoh, Gerard Butler, David Tennant, Madeleine Madden, Jeffrey Wright, Elliot Page, Karl Urban, Devery Jacobs, Zahn McClarnon, Ragga Ragnars, Deborah Mailman, Malcolm McDowell, Russell Crowe, and Vin Diesel. The inclusion of Vin Diesel would indicate that the series will tie-in to the sequel.

Ark has been pushed in a narrative-focused direction with the most recent Genesis Part 1 expansion which will continue in Genesis Part 2 early next year. However, Ark is and has always been multiplayer-focused with customizable characters, so introducing a star character in the sequel will be a major shift for the series. Hopefully, Ark 2 will be just as hilariously broken as Ark: Survival Evolved.
