The Brontosaurus is one of the largest creatures that you can find in Ark Survival Evolved. This massive dinosaur is quite passive despite its menacing size. Like other dinos in the game, you will be able to tame the Brontosaurus as well.

In this guide, we are going to take a look at how you can tame a Brontosaurus. This will include where to find them, as well as why they make a good tame. Brontosaurus are in the base game of Ark Survival Evolved, so you do not need to have any expansions to tame one. First, let's take a look at where you can find a Brontosaurus.

Brontosaurus Location

Fortunately, Brontosaurus aren't too rare. In general, you can find these dinosaurs in large open spaces where they have room to walk around.

On the Island, you can find Brontosaurus around the perimeter beach. In the image above, you can see these areas marked. We have also marked some additional locations where you can find Brontosaurus.

Overall, Brontosaurus are pretty large, so you should be able to see them from a distance. If you choose to start your game in the southern beach area of the Island, there may already be a few of these dinosaurs nearby.

Taming A Brontosaurus

Like other creatures, you will first need to knock out the Brontosaurus before you can tame them. This dinosaur is massive, so this part will take a bit of work.

Brontosaurus are not aggressive by nature, but if you attack them, they will retaliate. While they may not have the most complex attacks, they are very big, which can cause a lot of damage if you stand in the wrong place.

The best way to knock out a Brontosaurus is with tranquilizers and a trap. With a Large Bear Trap, you can immobilize the Brontosaurus, and then shoot them with tranquilizers until they are unconscious.

Bear traps are made with five fiber, three metal ingot, and six hide.

If you want to attack the Brontosaurus until they are knocked out, we recommend keeping a distance to avoid taking damage.

Brontosaurus Taming Food

Once the Brontosaurus has been knocked out, you will need to place food in its inventory. The best option for this is Exceptional Kibble, but if you don't have this, you can also use berries or barley.

The Brontosaurus is big, so you will need to have a lot of food ready. For more information, be sure to check out our guide on taming creatures.

Now that you have a tamed Brontosaurus, let's take a look at what you can do.

Riding

Brontosaurus are quite slow, but they can still be used as a form of transportation. They can carry a lot of weight, making them a perfect tame to take while collecting resources.

You can also place two different saddle types on the Brontosaurus, which can be found below.

Saddle Type

Required Materials

Description

Bronto Saddle

  • 350x Hide
  • 185x Fiber
  • 40x Metal Ingot
  • Ride your Brontosaurus
  • Unlocked at level 63

Bronto Platform Saddle

  • 550x Hide
  • 325x Fiber
  • 90x Metal Ingot
  • 125x Silica Pearls
  • 45x Cementing Paste
  • Build small structures and place objects for the Brontosaurus to carry around
  • This platform can also serve as a mobile base
  • Unlocked at level 82

Due to the size of a Brontosaurus, dismounting can be quite dangerous! Be sure to use a ladder or parachute, so you don't take too much fall damage.

Base Security

Brontosaurus can also be used as protection around your base. As mentioned above, they can deal a lot of damage due to their size. Additionally, Brontosaurus can be shot with bullets without taking too much damage.

While they aren't fast, you can create impenetrable security when paired with a faster and more aggressive tame.

Clearing Land

Lastly, you can use a Brontosaurus to clear land. All you need to do is take your Bronto through a dense area; their size will cause trees to fall and bushes to be destroyed.

This is also a good way to get tons of wood, fiber, and berries at the same time.

Breeding A Brontosaurus

Brontosaurus can be bred as well. To do so, you will need to tame a male and female Brontosaurus.

Creatures will only breed if you allow them to wander. If you don't want your Brontosaurus to stray too far, you can build a large enclosure with tall walls.

Eventually, your Brontosaurus will breed, and an egg will be laid. The egg will take around five hours to hatch, and should be kept in conditions between 82 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit (28 to 31 degrees Celsius). This is a relatively average temperature for the island, but be sure to reference our egg hatching guide if you need help.

After a female has laid an egg, it will be unable to breed for at least 18 hours. After this has passed, you can breed them again to get another egg.
