Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was announced at the game awards last night after a year of leaks confirming the game’s development. We have watermarked images, rumors, and From Software job ads, with yesterday’s cinematic trailer sealing the deal. The trailer revealed a blasted world being fought over by giant armored robots, but offered little in the way of details.

A day later and we have more information to share thanks to Bandai Namco’s info sheet. The three-dimensional armored combat game will feature ranged and melee combat and a new story. The planet Rubicon 3 was destroyed almost fifty years ago when a strange new substance caused a massive catastrophe that engulfed the entire system and even nearby stars in flames. The substance was supposed to usher in a new era for humanity, but instead, it killed millions and sealed off the system.

Decades later, intergalactic corporations and resistance groups are fighting over the substance once again. You drop onto Rubicon 3 as an independent mercenary fighting for both sides, but you’ll surely need to determine where your true loyalties lie.

The info sheet also notes that Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki first started on Armored Core 6, but now direction duties have been taken over by Masaru Yamamura. You might remember Yamamura as the lead designer of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, widely regarded as one of the most, if not the most difficult From Software game ever made.

Armored Core already has a reputation for being a tough-as-nails game series, with mechas that hurdle themselves in all three dimensions at lightning speed. With Yamamura at the helm, we can likely expect Armored Core 6 to follow closely in the franchise’s footsteps.

From Software had a big night at The Game Awards, picking up several wins for Elden Ring including the coveted Game of the Year award. It’s too bad that some weirdo had to interrupted Miyazaki’s acceptance speech at the end.
