Arnold Schwarzenegger never reprises his iconic role as Alan “Dutch” Schaefer from the 1987 film Predator, but the character is making his way back to the jungle in digital form as part of the first premium DLC of Predator: Hunting Grounds.

Beginning May 26, players will be able to purchase DLC that adds Dutch as a playable member of the Fireteam, with narration recorded by Schwarzenegger himself. While the character has not returned to film, the dialogue made available in game will provide information about what the character has been doing since the events of the film, which is fitting since the game references key points from the story, such as the use of mud as camouflage against the Predator’s heat vision.

Speaking about the DLC was Jared Gerritzen, the Chief Creative Officer at IllFonic who wrote the Dutch story points. He stated, “Throughout these tapes, there are those arrows [pointing to] what he’s doing, kind of like safeguards if he gets killed or captured. These tapes are gonna be used to essentially keep his story going.”

Illfonic has been scant on the details of their roadmap for the post release of the game, and this the best way to begin adding new content with the character who started it all. Best of all is that by beginning with the original series protagonist, there really is no limit as to which other characters we might see in the game.

Everyone from the first film is up for grabs in terms of thematic appropriateness, meaning that it would be only logical for us to now see the addition of characters like Billy, Blain, Mac, Dillon, and more. Characters from other films in the series might be a stretch, as Lieutenant Mike Harrigan, played by Danny Glover, only faced off against the Predator in Los Angeles. We certainly hope Dutch is the first of many DLC characters — both for the Fireteam and Predator.

Of course, by releasing the most popular character from the series first, players can expect to see the rather comedic sight of four Dutch character dropping into the jungle each match following his release, because who doesn’t want to play as the man himself? Expect to hear the voice command “Get to the chopper!” spammed for days after the DLC launch on May 26!
