The 26th of October was ArtStation Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the incredible talent of video game artists, 3D-animators, concept artists, and the like, from all around the world. #ArtStationDay on Twitter is flooded with radical artwork that would make anyone feel lucky to be living in this ever-more-impressive digital era.

A huge amount of effort is poured into the design process that ultimately leads to the final visual product of any game. This effort is collaborative, generally involving creative input from a team of artists and designers working on character, concept, prop design, and everything in between. The result? We get treated to some superb eye candy.

#ArtStationDay was kickstarted three years ago by character artist Gilberto Magno, when he posted a link to his ArtStation portfolio on Facebook, requesting fellow artists to do the same. This invitation was met with great enthusiasm, and it wasn't long until it became a global trend to share one's ArtStation portfolio on Twitter and Facebook. The 26th of October has since been christened the official ArtStation Day, when artists bring together and celebrate their shared passion for art and design.

If you don't know, ArtStation is a popular online platform where artists from all walks of life can showcase and sell their work, browse for job openings in a range of creative industries, and perhaps even get scouted for their talent along the way. And there certainly is some breathtaking talent out there.

As the video game industry continues to expand in every direction, it can be incredibly intimidating for a budding artist or designer to know how to break into the scene and make a name for themselves. So, things like #ArtStationDay and ArtStation itself seem like pretty great places to start. Taking the art you create and love, and having the courage to throw it out there for all to see can be a very liberating growth experience. Plus, you'd certainly be doing the rest of us a favor– did I mention we like eye candy?
