There have been more than a few Assassin’s Creed protagonists since 2007 when the series debuted, but no-one contests the assertion that Altair is the apex assassin of the story. He’s been placed as the mentor and grandmaster of every assassin to come, making him truly a respectable figure.

However, the one thing Altair can’t run away from are memes, as these funny pictures are impossible to avoid, grandmaster or not. All of these are in good taste, though, as Altair is one of the few protagonists who is unanimously liked by fans. That said, these memes are guaranteed to tickle the funny bone, and we’ve compiled 10 of them for your amusement.

10 That Fatal Flaw

Altair has always been lauded for being the perfect assassin, so much so that the series has had him carved out as the greatest source of wisdom and strength. And yet, his biggest flaw happens to be the fact that he can’t swim!

It’s crazy how the guy who was hailed as the best assassin ever couldn’t get around to learning such a simple ability, especially considering how much the assassins have been shown to require swimming at various points.

9 Not Cool, Ezio

Ezio’s responsible for a bunch of memes towards himself, but he’ll always one-up Altair in this area since he could claim to have been smart enough to carry out his duties as an assassin while retaining all his fingers.

The practice of cutting off one finger sounded ridiculous to begin with, seeing as it would make identifying an assassin really easy for enemies. Since Ezio negated this problem, Altair will always look like a bit of a chump for not having figured this out during his time.

8 Altair's Inner Bane

Although he was a protagonist, Altair’s easily the least approachable hero in personality in the Assassin’s Creed series. He was more like the villain Bane in his mannerisms, having a likening toward a quiet demeanor for the most part.

This meme takes that association even further by adding Bane’s quote from The Dark Knight Rises, only with the creed being the main topic of the quote. The crazy part is how well the quote goes with the picture, as this is something you could believe Altair to actually have said.

7 Love Comes In All Forms

The relationship of Altair and Maria was one of the best ones to come out of the series, mainly because it was born out of conflict and blossomed into love. It had started with Altair almost killing her, and him sparing her life led to the two eventually marrying.

Of course, if you put this fact down on paper it doesn’t sound nearly as romantic. Instead, it sounds more like an attempt at making a rom-com that comes across neither as a comedic or a romantic.

6 Wordplay

There’s always an audience when it comes to making lame puns or wordplay, and we’ll have to confess we do find this one rather tickling. It’s mainly due to Altair generally taking to the air and the fact that the name means, “The Flying One.”

Seeing the meme turn his name to “Altground” makes us wonder if the literal meaning also changes with it. Obviously not, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some lame wordplay, does it? Maybe if Altair didn’t like making all those leaps of faith his name might have been something else.

5 Hipster Altair

The first game in the series was easily the clunkiest, with A.I. being way too dumb, to the point where enemies wouldn’t even be able to spot you if you were hiding only slightly out of their line of sight. This led to many gamers coming up with hilarious ways to evade capture.

While this meme makes light of the process of making leaps of faith, it’s actually a fair representation of how one could get away with hiding without actually hiding. However, we do like the idea of making Altair a rebel who doesn’t conform with hiding in hay and favors skirting around it instead.

4 Now That's Terrifying

The series has come a long way in humanizing its protagonists, starting from Assassin’s Creed II itself where Ezio was a relatable character who was known for his wisecracks and jokes. However, Altair was never such a person.

In fact, the sight of this image where he’s cracked a wide grin is scarier than anything else, as it confirms that Altair is not a guy you want to see laughing ever. His usual no-nonsense attitude is far easier to stomach.

3 Goodbye Old Friend

One has to suspend their disbelief when playing the Assassin’s Creed games, although the leap of faith is one thing that has more than a few people rolling their eyes on more than a few occasions. After all, every kind of physics would confirm that Altair should go splat when reaching the bottom.

It gets crazier once you lay your eyes on the tiny stack of hay Altair lands upon, which makes this meme both funny and true as Altair should be jumping to his death every time he makes that leap.

2 Even Altair Needs To Go To School

Cosplaying and gaming go hand in hand these days, and the Assassin’s Creed series is at the top of the list when it comes to this. Altair is a favorite among fans due to his distinct look and him being the first assassin of them all.

It appears the Altair cosplay craze is such that a fan went so far as to dress up as the assassin at school. In this picture, you can clearly see the fan has taken to great lengths in having an exact get-up, although the funnier part is how a comment on the picture points out that Altair deserves to be named rather than be called “Mr. Assassin Creed.”

1 As It Goes With All Templars

This would be the best way to sum up the first game, considering the plot pretty much went this way. The story basically had Altair sent to a particular city, a Templar would try to kill him before Altair got to him, the Templar would fail, and Altair would move on to the next target.

Putting this summary of sorts in such a simple way is funnier than you’d think, though, as it makes it seem as if the series isn’t complex by any means and lacks any creative depth. While that’s certainly not the case, you still can’t argue this meme isn’t all too bad of a summary.
