In Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, you interact with Greek and Roman historical figures as you attempt to take down an organization known as the Cult of Kosmos. When you were young, your sibling was murdered and your family split apart - or so you thought. In your adventures, you'll discover that your sibling survived their fall off a cliff, and was subsequently turned into a weapon for the Cult.

Eventually, you'll find your sibling - now calling themself "Deimos." With enough patience and good decision-making skills, it is possible to save your sibling from the Cult's twisted brainwashing. By the end of the game, you need to have collected enough goodwill with Deimos for them to change their mind about you, and we will help you with that.

Updated July 5, 2023, by Sean Murray: How to save Deimos is one of the overarching questions of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. To make that task easier, we've refreshed this guide with improved formatting and added breakout notes and tips that reveal the consequences of each critical moment.

The choices below are the make-or-break moments, but in every conversation that you have, with Deimos and others, always consider that you're trying to save them.

General Tips To Keep In Mind

Deimos and Kassandra holding their hands.
  • Never audibly admit to Deimos or anyone else that Deimos might be too far gone to save.
  • Don't lie to Deimos.
  • Don't be sarcastic or mocking with Deimos.
  • Encourage Deimos to remember their family ties and that they have a family that still cares about them.
  • Don't be aggressive, even if Deimos tries to provoke you.
  • Express general hope about reuniting your family.

Key Decision: Don't Get Into A Fight With Deimos

AC Odyssey Kassandra and Deimos Meet
  • Chapter: 3

Eventually, you'll finally get the chance to improve your spear. After doing so in a dark cave, you'll emerge to find Deimos waiting for your return.

Opt for passive, non-confrontational choices in this conversation. This will help earn you goodwill with Deimos which is essential towards the end of the game. Don't aggravate them unnecessarily or lie to them.

The end of the conversation is the most important to get right. Deimos is unstable, so you cannot let the talking dissolve into fighting. The options you can choose from are:

  • "Not before I hurt you."
  • "You're still my brother."
  • "I'm going."

Make sure that you don't say "Not before I hurt you," because this will result in a small fight between the brother and sister.

The other options are both alright, but "You're still my brother" is considered preferable by some.

Key Decision: Tell Myrrine You'll Try To Save Deimos

Kassandra and Myrrine Meet Again.
  • Chapter: 6

At this point, you'll finally meet your long-lost mother, Myrrine. Little did you know she was a Spartan, calling herself "Phoenix." When you finally get a chance to talk with her, the two of you will discuss Deimos' unfortunate circumstances.

Myrrine and Kassandra are sitting down and speaking to each other.

Your mother wants to be able to save him if she can, and you can either support her or deny that Deimos can be saved:

  • "We'll get him/her back."
  • "He's beyond saving."

In order to even get the option to save Demios later, you must choose "We'll get him/her back."

Key Decision: Try To Save Deimos From The Burning Tree

Running from Deimos in a forest reduced to ashes, trees still burning.
  • Chapter: 8

Eventually, you'll participate in the Battle of Pylos, fighting against the Cult of Kosmos and your sibling. In the end, Deimos gets stuck under a burning tree that crashes to the ground. You'll have two options to react to this:

  • "Hold on!"
  • "You made your choice."

You have to choose the "Hold on!" option, which means you rush to try and save Deimos' life.

You won't succeed, but it will be important to Deimos that you tried.

Key Decision: Help Deimos Unravel Their Brainwashing

Deimos Talking To Kassandra In Jail.
  • Chapter: 8

After completing the Battle of Pylos, you'll wake up having been kidnapped by the Cult of Kosmos. Again, Deimos is waiting for you. In this conversation, you'll have a chance to try and sway Deimos' opinion in your favor.

However, for it to work at all, you must have tried to save them in the previous quest.

Kassandra talks to Deimos while being locked in a prison.

For those who would rather be safe than sorry, one agreed-upon reliable conversation path to earning goodwill is:

  • "It was the prophecy."
  • "The prophecy said you'd doom Sparta."
  • "Our mother searched for you.
  • "She thought you were dead."
  • "I was thrown off, too."

Eventually, a cultist named Kleon will interrupt your conversation. Assuming you tried to save Deimos in Pylos, you'll know that you've started to break down their brainwashing because they'll yell "I am not your puppet!" at Kleon.

Key Decision: Refuse To Fight Deimos

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Deimos and Eagle-bearer close to embrace
  • Chapter: 9

The entire game builds up to a final confrontation between you and Deimos, with Myrrine at your side.

Deimos is injured by a mistaken arrow shot by a cultist, so you run to kill that cultist (Kleon), before heading back. When you meet up with Myrrine and she asks about them, tell her that "Deimos might be alive."

When you return to check on Deimos, they'll be angry, trying to rile you up. Tell them: "You don't need the Cult."

Family hug with Deimos.

When Deimos tries to fight, make the final decision by choosing the option: "I don't want to fight you." You offer them your spear, instead, and they'll take it. You'll know if you've successfully saved Deimos by their reaction.

If you've done it correctly, Deimos drops to their knees and begins to cry, at which point Myrrine runs over to embrace them and a touching family moment ensues.

Endings Where Deimos Lives

AC Odyssey Best Ending Dinner Scene, Myrrine, Stentor, Deimos, Kassandra, Nikolaos

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey has nine endings in total. Deimos is alive and with your family in three of these.

Deimos and Myrrine

In this ending, only your biological mother and sibling join you for dinner. To achieve it, you would have killed Nikolaus and subsequently ruined your relationship with Stentor.

Myrrine, Nikolaus, and Deimos

The ending with your mother, step-father, and sibling comes about if you saved Nikolaus, but didn't tell him to go see Stentor in person.

Myrrine, Nikolaus, Stentor, and Deimos ("Best" Ending)

In the supposed "best" ending to the game, you've managed to bring all the members of your family back together: your step-father, step-brother, biological mother and sibling.
