E3 leaks continue to ruin even the best laid plans, as Ubisoft's latest Assassin's Creed is the next to be revealed ahead of time. A collectible promotional item advertising the next game was revealed online, and it contains very specific visual clues that tell us exactly what the setting of the next Assassin's Creed will be. With such a strong piece of evidence out there, Ubisoft decided to bite the bullet and officially announce the new game: Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

The original leak appeared on Jeux Video Live. Upon first glance, it seems rather underwhelming. It's just a phone-quality picture of a hand holding a keychain. However, a closer looks reveals two things. First, a very legitimate-looking logo graces the top of the packaging, showing the title of the game. Secondly, a Spartan-style helmet shows up both in the logo and as the actual shape of the keychain itself. This led fans to one conclusion: Assassin's Creed Odyssey is set in Ancient Greece.

It didn't take long for the keychain to make the rounds, prompting Assassin's Creed owner Ubisoft to address the rumors. It did so via a Tweet on the official Assassin's Creed account. It contains a very short video of a man Spartan-kicking another man off a cliff, followed by the game's logo, indeed the same logo that appears on the keychain's package. The text simply says "See you at E3!" Basically, Ubisoft is saying the leak is true but that it won't tell us anything more until the planned reveal.

The fan reaction to the news has been positive overall. Greece makes for a great Assassin's Creed setting, being one of the most exciting and romanticized civilizations in history. And the "odyssey" part of the title implies some form of sea travel, instilling hope for something similar to the sailing mechanics that made Black Flag so great. If not that, then Assassins will now have a magic hat that possesses enemies. The safer bet is on the sailing.

E3 begins on June 12th, and is sure to provide all sorts of exciting announcements. That is, if they don't all leak in the next week.
