Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is a historical fiction action-adventure video game set in ancient Greece. As you venture through the world, opening up new regions to explore, XP hunting can quickly become necessary.

There are two kinds of ways to ensure you're getting the most XP out of your time in-game. While you may be in need of a quick boost to be high-leveled enough for another region or quest, there are steps you can take afterward to ensure you never have to bother XP hunting again.

Tasks To Do As You Go

Complete Fortress Objectives

Completing any location's objectives is going to grant experience, but the biggest payouts come from the fortresses. While you could return to these later in a pinch, it's far easier to grab all the objectives while you're already there and familiar with the layout.

Some chests can be tricky to find, but Ikaros (your eagle) should help with that. You only get the experience payout for them if they're all completed, so it's just a waste otherwise.

Check XP Amounts On Side Quests

One thing that players don't always notice or care about in their quest log is that each quest lists the amount of XP it will award.

  • A really simple way to make sure you're maximizing your XP over the course of the game is to make sure you're prioritizing the side quests which will award the most.

Of course, the ones that interest you may not give the best XP, but there's no harm in diverging a little bit once in a while.

Explore

Perhaps the simplest way to earn XP in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is simply to explore the beautiful world that Ubisoft created.

You will gain experience as you discover new regions and locations on the maps - not to mention you're bound to run into a few enemies on the way, or an extra side quest or two.

Pick Up Contracts And Side Quests From Boards

There are boards in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey with contracts to kill mercenaries, among other simple side quests. You'll often find that these will crop up in the rearview mirror as you journey throughout the world doing your other quests and tasks.

  • Tip: Legendary contracts for mercenaries are worth a truly incredible amount of XP, though any contract at a purple rank or higher is worth picking up.

Participate In Conquest Battles

Conquest battles are missions that appear on the map where Greek is having a battle with Rome over the control of a region. You'll need to choose a side to support before joining and destroying the opposing army.

Though you could do these when you're desperate for XP points, the flaw in that plan is that they're not always available. While you could influence the politics enough to start one, it would be quite a pain to do all that work when you're eager to get back to the interesting stuff! It's much better to participate in them as they come up and take the quick XP boost then.

Things To Do When You Need Experience Fast

Fight In The Arena

You'll discover the Arena by following the quest "They Just Want Cruelty," which is acquired the first time you kill one of the mercenaries. It's a ring in Pephka where there are five mercenaries to fight for huge amounts of XP. Once you've beaten a mercenary once, you can fight them again, although you take a slight hit to the XP you'll earn.

  • Tip: Every time you defeat a mercenary out in the world, they retire to the Arena and can be fought again for more XP than normal.

Purchasing XP Boosters

The Ubi Club, Ubisoft's online service outside of the game, provides rewards to players who join it. One of the things available on the Ubi Club store is an XP boost that lasts for two hours and increases your experience gain by 25%.

It is technically a microtransaction since this boost costs 10 "U Coins," but the coins are easily attained by taking on in-game tasks like defeating a particular enemy or even just completing story missions.

The other option is found in Assassin's Creed Odyssey's in-game store. For 1000 Helix Credits, you can purchase a permanent XP booster that increases experience gain by 50% forever. This store, on the other hand, will require you to pay real money to purchase the items.

Ancient Steles

If you're desperate for XP just to unlock one more ability or upgrade, consider hunting down an ancient Stele instead. Each one provides a skill point when you find it!

They're usually hidden in caves, within sprawling cities, or anywhere else that might be a pain to reach. Some are better hidden or better defended than others.

Hunt Cultists, Mercenaries, and Legendary Beasts

AC Odyssey Legendary Enemies

The legendary enemies in the game, which may be Mercenaries, Cultists from the Cult of Kosmos, or the Legendary Beasts you must find and defeat for the Daughters of Artemis, are worth a mountain of XP for each kill.

The nice thing about legendary enemies being spread out into multiple categories is that if you're having trouble finding a cult member, or can't quite beat a legendary animal yet, you can always switch gears and find someone else.
