Despite fading into irrelevancy thanks to titles like Breath of the Wild and Elden Ring, Assassin's Creed continues to be a behemoth of a franchise. It's the jewel in Ubisoft's IP crown, but despite that, some fans think that the series no longer resembles what made it popular in the first place. Starting with Assassin's Creed Origins, games have started to resemble more standard RPGs rather than the stealth-action series that fans resonated with all those years ago. Some fans want to go back.

Assassin's Creed fans on Reddit have been debating on whether the series should go back to its roots. Redditor Turbulent-Mention was the first to put the question to the game's subreddit, and they received plenty of differing opinions, although the majority of fans would like Ubisoft to go back to a "big city" sandbox rather than the sprawling open worlds seen in Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla

There are some differing opinions though, as Redditor planethipes argues that the series should combine old and new to produce something different. They explain that they'd like to see a game combine elements of Unity and Origins, removing the RPG elements from the main story, but keeping the side quests and dialogue choices seen in previous titles.

The there's Redditor SellusGravius who argues that the games have gotten better over time, but wishes Ubisoft would implement more ways to go about your objectives stealthily. They think that standard assassinations are too clunky, and that Ubisoft has made running into an area and slashing your way out more fun. They also explain that they'd like to see more of a focus on the Assassin vs Templar story beats seen in the previous games.

What with there being hundreds of replies to the initial question, there's certainly a lot of different opinions to sift through, although most fans wish Ubisoft would shake things up a little bit with the next game. We won't have to wait too long to find out if it will though, as Ubisoft announced the next game in the Assassin's Creed series will be revealed this September. Here's hoping the devs do something wild.
