You will make a ton of choices as you journey through Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but not all of them matter. Some of them are obvious in this regard, while others make it seem like your choice could change the outcome of the game, like when you need to decide if Dag should join or stay to do as he pleases. It can lead to quite a bit of confusion and anxiety as players worry that their choice gave them the bad ending.

It is surprising how many choices won't make a difference in comparison to those that do. These decisions might have you sweating, but they shouldn't as the outcome is always the same in the end!

Updated May 23rd, 2021 by Rebecca O’Neill: There are so many pointless choices to make in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that have the same outcome no matter what you choose. A DLC called Wrath of the Druids was just released and with it came more decisions just like this. It may have come with a new setting and a separate storyline, but that didn’t change how the Ubisoft developers handled this RPG.

The main storyline really had players stumped when it came to asking Dag to join in on the rescue mission or to stay and do as he pleased. It ended with the same outcome, as many of the choices do, and it left players questioning whether they were in charge of the story all along in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

15 What Is Thorstein’s Fate?

Thorstein's Fate in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

One of the choices that don’t matter in Wrath of the Druids is when the king asks you what should be done with Thorstein. You could give him a dignified execution, brutal death, or display of cruelty, but your choice doesn’t make a difference.

No matter what you decide the king will choose to just take away his property and banish him from the region.

14 What Happened To Ceolbert?

Ceolbert decision in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

When you are playing through a quest called The Bloody Path to Peace, Ceolbert is murdered with a dagger and it is up to Eivor to decide what to say to Ivarr. You have three options to choose from, but all of them lead to the same end result.

No matter what you do you will end up invading Caustow Castle with the group and King Rhodri will die a terrible death, and it is after this his true killer will finally be revealed.

13 Do You Drink The Wine From The Pict Camp?

Pict Camp Wine Decision in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Once you defeat the Picts then you will be asked what to do with the wine from the Pict Camp. You have to decide if they should drink the wine or not, even though it’s Halfdan’s share, but no matter what you choose Ulf will still decide to drink it.

This is ultimately not a bad decision regardless as Halfdan wasn’t at the battle and chose instead to sit within the safety of a castle.

12 Which Etching Do You Put On The Shield?

Shield etching decision in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

When you are completing the quest called Adorning the Adored you will be asked to choose a design for the shield. You have a choice between wisdom, strength, and determination, but your decision has no bearing on the story.

It will change the look of the shield, although that is the only change so pick whichever one feels right to you.

11 What Do You Offer The Dwarf Blacksmith?

Dwarf Blacksmith decision in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

When you are in Asgard, before facing some of the hardest bosses, you will encounter a dwarf who you ask to make you a magic rope, but he won’t do it for free. You can offer him his freedom or your gratitude, and either way, he will still make you what you desire.

This is one question that seems like the outcome could change based on your choice, although once again it was never up to you in the first place.

10 What Is Gorm's Fate?

Gorm's fate in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

You are given three options by King Harald in regards to Gorm's fate after his father's death. The options are to kill him, banish him, or let the king decide what he wants to do with him.

It seems like an important decision, but no matter what you choose King Harald will decide to rename him 'Worm' and exile him from Norway. You will still end up battling him in Vinland so you can still prove yourself to be a real-life Viking.

9 Spare Or Kill The Norse Warrior?

Spare or kill the Norseman in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

When Raventhorpe is attacked by another clan of Norseman, one will be captured and it is up to you to decide his fate. You can choose to free or kill him, but the outcome is the same in the end no matter which one you choose.

If you kill him he will obviously be dead, but if you free him then Dag will kill him with an ax as he is angry with your decision.

8 Who Fights Beside You In Asgard?

The Norse gods in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

When in Asgard you will have the choice of Freyja, Tyr, or Thor to fight beside you in battle. This choice has no bearing on the outcome and is really just for fans of Norse mythology who would find it incredible to fight beside one of these legends.

They are all excellent choices and none of them will disappoint so a blind pick won't hurt the outcome of your story, but make sure to have your best runes equipped before the battle.

7 What To Do With The Scout?

The Scout's fate in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

When you are helping Oswald on his path to becoming King, there is a segment of the story where Eivor will be tasked with bringing back a scout for questioning. He does spill the beans about Rued's plot to attack, so now it is up to you whether he lives or dies.

If you choose to kill him then it's over and the scout is dead, but if he lives the same outcome is reached. Valdis, Oswald's future bride, will kill the scout anyway and let everyone know how Rued was her former husband as an explanation for the scout's death.

6 How To Get To The Compass?

The Compass choice in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

It might seem at first like the Compass could escape if you choose the wrong battle strategy, but this is false. You can either man the ballista with Stowe, flank with Erke, or go it alone.

No matter what you choose the end result is you battling it out with the compass until he is dead and put you one step closer to beating the game.

5 What Is The Fate Of King Rhodri?

King Rhodri's fate in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

When you have defeated King Rhodri it is up to you to decide what to do with him, or so you think. Ivarr actually has other plans and whether you choose to let him go, allow him to die on his own terms, or tell the other Dane to finish him quickly.

No matter what you say Ivarr will still take his body up to the top of the mountain and perform torture known as the Blood Eagle. It is pretty gruesome, but unfortunately, this is one cut-scene you won't be able to avoid.

4 Who Is The Vault?

Who is the Vault in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

It is up to Eivor to uncover the Vault's true identity, or is it? You can choose from Ricsige, Faravid, Audun, or Hjorr as they are all members of the Council of Jorvik. The right answer is Audun, however, no matter who you choose he will reveal himself in the end.

Audun ultimately decides to give a toast with poisoned wine and then reveal his master plan once everyone who participated is dead.

3 Do You Force Dag To Join You To Save Sigurd?

Dag in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Dag is pretty much against you by this point in the game and he has openly accused you of trying to steal Sigurd's place as Jarl. When the rescue mission to save Sigurd is ready, you have the choice to ask him to join or stay to do as he pleases.

Dag says he must stay back to watch over the settlement. Whether you tell him he must join or he can do what he wants, Dag will make the choice not to take this journey with you.

Once the Vault is assassinated and this will ultimately lead you to speak with Ricsige. He will ask you whether you should give the silver to the Merchants or the Halfdans, and it doesn't make a difference.

There are no perks for choosing one or the other, however, most will agree the moral decision is to give it to the merchants as they were robbed. Once it is over you can head off to defeat some more legendary animals in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

1 Gudrun And Holger Choice

Holger or Gudrun choice in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Randvi will ask you to help her once again in making a judgment on the feud between Gudrun and Holger. The basics of this argument are that Holger took some of Gudrun's sailcloth to make paintings that she had allegedly thrown outside as trash.

Obviously, Holger is in the wrong in this situation, but it doesn't matter who you choose as Sigurd will come in and make his own decision.
