Assassin's Creed Valhalla's giant map is filled with all sorts of secrets and treasures to find. However, many NPCs that occupy the AC world are smart enough to lock their valuables up. Yet, they also tend to misplace (or often perish), leaving their keys behind. The latter happened to an unfortunate man named Ornir as he perished with the Deserted Chalet key.
Therefore, to fetch it, you need to locate his corpse, which the game doesn't put on your map, so it isn't too easy to find. But not to worry, as this guide will outline in detail where it is and what it opens.
Updated June 16, 2023, by Sean Murray: Finding the Deserted Chalet key shouldn't be a chore. That's why we've shorted and streamlined this guide to make it easier to find and get you back to exploring the frozen wilds of the north.
An Overview Of Ingots
In AC Valhalla, ingots are precious, as they're used for enhancing weapons and armor throughout the game by way of the Blacksmith at your settlement.
Of course, there's plenty of better equipment to collect throughout the game, but these upgrades allow you to save time and resources by enhancing armor already in your possession.
- Carbon ingots (which is what we'll be going after in this guide) improve Fine gear to Superior.
- Nickel ingots improve Superior gear to Flawless.
- Tungsten ingots improve Flawless gear to Mythical.
Ingots are found in chests scattered throughout the world, portrayed on the world map by an image of three ingots stacked in a pyramid.
Where Is The Deserted Chalet Key For The Carbon Ingot?
As you'd expect, the key is near the Deserted Chalet in Rygjafylke, Norway. To find it, you want to head to the northeast part of the central island. Unfortunately, getting to the island isn't exactly easy as the whole place is surrounded by freezing cold water; If you swim across, you will take some damage.
It's up to you whether you brave it or find a boat to remain dry and safe on your way there.
Across the way from an isolated cabin is a boulder nestled at the bottom of a downward slope in the ground. Take the snowy path leading there.
Retrieving the key isn't as simple as it looks here, as guarding the key is a pack of a few angry wolves. Take them down using arrows or a melee weapon. Be sure to keep moving and stay alert, attacking quickly—as the wolves will surround Eivor and strike swiftly.
Once they're slain, loot the skeleton laid next to a shield. This will get you the Ornir's Key — aka The Deserted Chalet Key. You can also read a journal that's nearby, which gives you a brief, but somber tale about Ornir if you choose.
Reaching The Chest The Deserted Chalet Key Opens
Now for the rewarding part—approaching the chest and collecting the ingot. Thankfully, the hard part is over at this point. Turn around and head back down the snowy path, which leads to the Deserted Chalet, just southwest of the key's location.
It's inside a large chest within the big, cobweb-filled house (or chalet). Once you're there, you can read the note on the table or smash some boxes to collect some minor loot. Yet, the most important thing to do is find the chest in the corner of the room, next to the window.
Use the button prompt to open it and collect the Carbon Ingot. While it's just a single piece of loot, it is significant at this point of the game as it lets you enhance your gear early on.
