Good news for those who have yet to dive into Ubisoft’s massive Viking simulator Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The open-world RPG is receiving a free-to-play weekend as part of the build-up to the game’s next expansion. This promotional weekend will begin on February 24, wrapping up the following Monday.Yesterday, the official Assassin’s Creed account tweeted out a short roadmap of what players can expect in the coming weeks, including the free weekend. Before that, however, there's the upcoming 1.5.0 update for the game. Unfortunately, not a lot is known about what this update will offer, but with a big expansion just around the corner, it will likely just get the title ready for that. This update will go live on February 22.A few days after the update, fans will be treated to a free trial weekend. From February 24 to 28, players will get to try out the Viking game at no cost to them. More details will likely be coming as the date draws closer, but this is not an uncommon tactic for big games recently, as we just saw with Cyberpunk 2077. Considering Assassin's Creed is also receiving a big expansion, this free-to-play weekend is likely to draw in more players and get them hyped for what is to come.
The final date on the roadmap is for the Dawn of Ragnarök DLC. Arriving March 10, this expansion will see players take control of Norse God Odin as he enters the mythical dwarven realm of Svartalfheim. This mythological expansion will offer players 40 hours of content to play through, while only requiring 15GB of space. It looks like this will be Ubisoft’s most ambitious endeavor for Valhalla since its release.
While the free weekend and upcoming DLC are sure to bring in newcomers to the series, the game has already been hugely successful. In fact, the Norse-inspired game has turned out to be Ubisoft’s most profitable yet. Valhalla has earned over $1 billion in revenue for the studio, becoming the first Ubisoft title to do so. With continued support and more content added regularly, that number will surely climb, especially after fans experience all that Ragnarök has to offer.
