Orlog is a fictional game that the developers of Assassin's Creed Valhalla came up with themselves. It involves rolling six dice that each have offensive, defensive, or God Token properties and your goal is to take away all 15 stones of your opponent's health. One aspect that makes this special is the inclusion of God Favors, which utilize God Tokens and give you a special advantage.

You will face several Orlog players throughout your time in Valhalla, and some of them will reward you with new God Favors to use in your future matches. Unfortunately, some of them can be fairly confusing to use, but which ones you equip depends upon your base strategy.

Updated on August 8, 2021 by Hodey Johns: There are some solid DLC releases for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but so far, the biggest surprise hit is still Orlog. It's not too often that a game within a game makes a name for itself, so this is a fantastic accomplishment for the simple rules and the sneaky depth that Orlog demands. Players are still flocking to this guide and with good reason; Orlog is fun, but it is tricky, and players deserve to know what an enemy piece does before heading into combat against it. Without knowing what the Favors do, it's impossible to reliable win. This breakdown has been updated with easier to read charts and there is an elaboration on the best strategy for each God Favor in the game.

Thor's Strike

How To Use It

You can use this anytime in the game, and one strategy is to save up your God Tokens to steal a lot of their health at once. This is also a good one to use to finish them off at the end of a close game. It is by far the best God Favor in the game and is part of why Orlog is the best part of Valhalla, as it will automatically reduce their Health and nothing can stop it.

It's fine to have other strategies, it's even recommended, but always pair two Favor's with this one. Players can't always count on axes or arrows to show up on the dice, but tokens will gradually accumulate and, if they do stack up, it's wise to unleash them when they get as high as twelve with Thor's Strike.

Hel’s Grip

  • Overall Effect: Dealing axe damage to your opponent will heal you

18 Tokens

+3 Health per damage

How To Use It

If you are running low on health you can use this God Favor to recoup some of it by stacking up on axes, but make sure your opponent doesn't have helmets to block them.

This Favor is generally considered too expensive to use, but it can make sense when paired with other God Favors that are more aggressive. Healing is always secondary to offense, but sometimes this can help Eivor hang on for one more round.

Vidar's Might

How To Use It

This is a versatile God Favor that is great due to the low number of God Tokens it requires. It can help you slowly chip away at their health, especially if you find yourself with several axes. This game might not be historically accurate, but it is fun to play.

Vidar's Might is intended to pair with Brunhild's Fury. This Favor is very inexpensive and eliminating opponent helmets while amplifying friendly axes has the potential to win the game in a single round.

How To Use It

If you find yourself in a bind where an opponent is really digging into your health then consider stocking up on shields and helmets and decide to choose to use this God Favor.

Healing isn't something that players should plan on. It's smart to have a piece that can heal, but it's always better to try to out-damage the opponent first. Heimdall's Watch is a good healing Favor because blocking is commonplace and all it takes is one round with a lot of block rolls to skyrocket Eivor's health, making it unrealistic for the foe to mount a comeback.

Skadi’s Hunt

  • Overall Effect: Add arrows to each die that rolled arrows

How To Use It

The game is always up to chance, and if you can roll several arrows then this God Favor might be for you. It can be used at any point in the game and it could even take all of their health in one go!

Combine this Skadi's Hunt with Ullr's Aim for maximum effect. It takes some patience to wait for the tokens to stack up and a little luck, but the game can end in a flash with just a few arrow dice.

How To Use It

This game is part strategy and part luck, but if you stock up on arrows and see your opponent has several shields in play, then this God Favor can come in handy. Your arrows will sail right past the shields and take out their health.

Usually countering an enemy's dice isn't an effective use of an entire God Favor slot, but Ullr's Aim is a notable exception. The value of the token is one of the best as even its first token cost is a one-on-one token to damage ratio (for those who rolled a couple of arrows).

Baldr’s Invulnerability

How To Use It

Sometimes your opponents will choose a purely offensive strategy that has you struggling to block their attacks. This God Favor is great for these situations as it doesn't take many tokens to block a few more attacks.

Baldr's Invulnerability is a great default choice when it's not known what the enemy's Favors are. Some tokens are far more cost-effective, but they're also very particular. When an enemy has unknown Favors, however, this covers all bases defensively.

Freyja’s Plenty

How To Use It

If you want to give yourself an added advantage then one tip is to consider using this God Favor that grants you extra dice per round. It doesn't take many tokens and it can give you a small push to take the lead.

Aside from Thor's Strike, this might be the most dominant God Favor in the game. It doesn't end the game in a single round like some, but it widdles the opponent's lifepool away. It's also very cheap and helpful for players who just need an extra arrow or axe to pull off an amazing flurry.

Freyr’s Gift

How To Use It

Whatever you decide to stock up on, whether it be arrows, axes, helmets, shields, or steal a God Token, this God Favor will come in handy. It is versatile and works in any situation which is why it is a great addition to any player's game.

Freyja's Plenty provides some more random dice rolls. For a little extra cost, Freyr's Gift does the same but players are able to control it a little bit more. Great for players who are all-in on either arrows or axes.

Idun’s Rejuvenation

How To Use It

Sometimes an opponent can knock off a chunk of your health and create a close game, which is when you should use this God Favor. It does take a decent number of God Tokens, but it is worth it to give you a chance to win the game.

RELATED: Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Best Bows To Shoot Fo

Compared to other healing Favors, it's hard to recommend Idun's Rejuvenation. The ratio of healing to tokens is truly terrible. The one positive thing that can be said is how it's simple and unconditional healing, but the price is a bit too high.

Brunhild’s Fury

  • Opponent Location: Northwic, East Anglia
  • Overall Effect: Multiply axes, rounded up

Number of Tokens

Effect

6 Tokens

How To Use It

Axes are a great way to diminish your opponent's health, and this God Favor amplifies their usefulness. It is the perfect thing to use throughout the game as it increases the damage you can do to them and makes any game of Orlog easier than the hardest bosses.

Brunhild's Fury is quite pricy to use, but the Favor is intended to be a game-ender. Unlike other Favors which use addition, this one cashes in tokens for multiplication. For those who feel lucky on the dice rolls, this isn't a bad choice.

Skuld's Claim

How To Use It

This God Favor comes in handy when your opponent starts stacking up on God Tokens because you know the ending won't be pretty. You can use this to destroy a few of their God Tokens and all you need are some arrows.

Skuld's Claim is fantastically balanced and just as deadly. Arrows already do damage by themselves, tying them to unblockable token damage is a nasty trick to pull. A few good arrow rolls and suddenly enemy players can no longer pull off their strategy thanks to being depleted on the one resource that every strategy needs in order to function.

Frigg's Sight

How To Use It

If you find that your opponent is blocking all of your arrows and axes, or is beating you down with their own, then you can use this God Favor to reroll some of their dice. It is great as it doesn't require the use of many God Tokens and might give you a chance at a better outcome.

Here's one of the quirkiest but useful strategies in Orlog: Pair Frigg's Sight with Freyja's Plenty. The two combine for a lot of dice and most of them can be reconfigured to the desired roll.

Loki's Trick

  • Opponent Location: Jorvik
  • Overall Effect: Ban opponent's dice for the round

Number of Tokens

Effect

3 Tokens

-1 die

6 Tokens

-2 die

9 Tokens

-3 die

How To Use It

This God Favor is similar to that of Frigg's Sight, but it is a bit better as it ensures an opponent's die is out of the picture. It could give you an opening to win the game, especially if it happens to be closer than you would like.

Loki's Trick is best used to stop the enemy from pulling off a massive combo. For example, Brunhild's Fury can multiple the number of axes being thrown by three for eighteen tokens. A player with this Favor actually can turn a pretty hefty profit on this attack by spending nine tokens and potentially deleting the entire attack, coming out ahead by nine net tokens in the exchange.

Mimir's Wisdom

  • Opponent Location: Picheringa, Eurvicscire
  • Overall Effect: Gain God Tokens for each damage dealt to you this round

Number of Tokens

Effect

3 Tokens

+1 God Token per damage

5 Tokens

+2 God Token per damage

7 Tokens

+3 God Token per damage

How To Use It

If you know your plan is to deal a lot of damage in a single round, then consider using this God Favor on top of it. It will grant you God Tokens for dealing damage, which could help you do even more in the next round.

Mimir's Wisdom is a smart choice for investors who know how to spend tokens to make tokens. The net gain is usually small and Eivor will have to take damage to get it to work, but if the damage isn't going to be blocked anyway, might as well get a few extra tokens in the process.

Bragi's Verve

  • Opponent Location: Grimsby, Lincolnscire
  • Overall Effect: Gain extra God Tokens for each die that rolled "Steal a God Token"

Number of Tokens

Effect

4 Tokens

+2 Tokens per die

6 Tokens

+3 Tokens per die

12 Tokens

+4 Tokens per die

How To Use It

The "Steal a God Token" roll already gives you God Tokens, but now you can gain even more. This God Favor will give you extra God Tokens on top of the one you steal, so you can really rack them up and hit your opponent with a God Favor in the next round that deals a massive amount of damage.

Much like how Mimir's Wisdom operates with health, Bragi's Verve functions with tokens. Players who have this Favor equipped will rarely get to use it because opposing players can see that too much stealing of tokens will bite them. This convinces the foe to reroll these dice into something else. It's a great "big stick" for strategies that have heavy token investments and can't afford to lose them into enemy hands.

Odin's Sacrifice

Odin's Sight in Orlog in Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Opponent Location: Crawleah, Suthsexe
  • Overall Effect: After the Resolution phase, sacrifice any number of your Health Tokens and gain God Tokens per Health Tokens sacrificed

+3 Tokens per Health Token

8 Tokens

+4 Tokens per Health Token

10 Tokens

+5 Tokens per Health Token

How To Use It

Odin's Sacrifice is often used early on in a game of Orlog, as giving up health isn't usually a big deal this early on. You will have to give up at least two Health Tokens to make up for your loss, but it is well worth it for the reward. It is a risk, but one some are willing to take if this is the strategy they choose to use.

Odin's Sacrifice has a very simple victory formula: Spend 10 Tokens, give up 5 health, then Eivor has 25 Tokens. With this amount, essentially any combination of deadly Favors will be affordable. The gamble is always surviving one more round so that the investment is worth it, but players who are still standing likely have a whale of a punch waiting in the wings.

Var's Bond

  • Overall Effect: Each God Token spent by your opponent heals you

Number of Tokens

Effect

10 Tokens

+1 Health per Token

14 Tokens

+2 Health per Token

18 Tokens

+3 Health per Token

How To Use It

Some opponents like to use their God Tokens freely, which is where this God Favor comes in handy, and is definitely something to go after once you beat the game. If you suspect your opponent plans to use a God Favor then you can pull this God Favor and gain back the health they had planned to take away. It is a great counter versus Thor's Strike as it prevents them from depleting your health.

Healing Favors have a spotty (at best) victory rate and Var's Bond is no exception. If the opponent is spending tokens, they're likely doing damage to you. The odds that the ratio of damage they are doing to you is less than the healing brought on by this Favor is very, very low. It might dissuade players from their first-level investments, but spending tokens and probably still having a net loss of health is going to happen more often than not when using this.

Thrymr's Theft

Thrymr's Theft in Orlog in Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Opponent Location: Glowecestre, Glowecestrescire
  • Overall Effect: Reduce the effect level of a God Favor invoked by the opponent this round

Number of Tokens

Effect

3 Tokens

-1 Level

6 Tokens

-2 Levels

9 Tokens

-3 Levels

How To Use It

If you know your opponent is planning to use a God Favor, then you will want to employ one of your own. You can diminish the effect that their God Favor has on you with this, as it can reduce its level. It doesn't use up many of your own God Tokens, and it can render it useless if you have nine God Tokens.

Here are a lot of "th-" words: Thrymr's Theft is thrifty to boot! Nine tokens or less negates any enemy move. So if a player spends nine or more on a Favor ability, having this will automatically make Eivor come out ahead. This is a favored defensive Favor in the Orlog community.

Tyr's Pledge

Tyr's Pledge in Orlog in Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Opponent Location: Fearnhamme, Hamtunscire
  • Overall Effect: Sacrifice any number of your Health Tokens to destroy an opponent's God Token per Health Token sacrificed

Number of Tokens

Effect

4 Tokens

-2 Tokens per Health Token

6 Tokens

-3 Tokens per Health Token

8 Tokens

-4 Tokens per Health Token

How To Use It

When watching your opponent you might see them stacking up on God Tokens, which means that something big is coming your way. You should consider destroying their God Tokens, and while it comes at the cost of your health, it is well worth it to avoid a loss.

Giving up life and tokens at the same time is a high cost to pay, but it can be worth it. Doing the math, giving up eight tokens and five health will destroy twenty enemy tokens. Most players would say this is a worthy sacrifice, so it's convenient if such a situation ever pops up.
