It has been a constant battle between fans of open-world RPGs whether Assassin's Creed or Red Dead Redemption is the better franchise. The release of Assassin's Creed Valhalla brings this argument to light once again as it is compared to Red Dead Redemption 2. The two games are similar, but there are some things each one does better than the other.

They are set in different time periods, but there are certain aspects of each game that have helped them rise to the top of their genre. Keep reading to learn the ways in which Assassin's Creed Valhalla is superior to Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2, and vice-versa.

10 Better: It Has A Level Of Fantasy

While Red Dead Redemption 2 might be historically accurate, Valhalla has a sense of fantasy in both its storyline and play style that makes it great. It keeps you guessing as you try to put the pieces together of what is actually going on, all while drawing you into the lore of the era.

The extreme assassin abilities, like jumping from high heights and various other extraordinary skills, are what take Valhalla to the next level and give it an edge over Red Dead Redemption 2.

9 Worse: RDR2's Story Is Better

The biggest downfall of Valhalla is that the beginning of the story is boring and doesn't hook the player as it should. Red Dead Redemption 2, on the other hand, grabs your attention from the very start and submerges you into the history and culture of the wild west.

The decline of Arthur as he succumbs to disease is just another reason why Red Dead Redemption 2 is so amazing. The decisions a player makes in Rockstar's title have a greater impact compared to those in Valhalla.

8 Better: The Weapons Combined With Skills And Abilities Are Better

Eivor in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

It is no contest that Red Dead Redemption 2 has a wider array of weapons to choose from, especially in terms of guns. However, Valhalla features more hand-to-hand combat that is made better as players discover and unlock new abilities and skills.

Some players also like the variety of melee weapons available compared to the heavier focus on ranged weaponry in Red Dead Redemption 2.

7 Worse: RDR2's Side Missions Are More Diverse

A side mission in Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a great storyline, but the side missions are also more diverse in comparison to those in Valhalla. When playing Assassin's Creed, players find themselves doing the same thing over and over as they stealthily loot chests in enemy camps, complete similar puzzles to find chests, and uncover ancient artifacts.

Red Dead Redemption 2 offers more entertainment as the missions are generally based on historical facts and each one is different than the last. It shows how Rockstar put more time into the story, but this also has to do with the fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 spent a lot longer in development than Valhalla.

6 Better: The Settlement Is Easier To Upgrade

Raventhorpe in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

The two games have similar concepts revolving around setting up a home base, be it as Valhalla's settlement or Red Dead Redemption 2's camps. Out of the two, Valhalla's version is easier to upgrade, and this was a feature that fans were hyped about. All you have to do is raid a monastery and loot a few chests, while Red Dead Redemption 2 requires players to gather thousands of dollars.

It has them choosing between buying certain items or upgrading their camp, while Valhalla keeps it separate from the store. It also makes it easier to focus on the side quests and story, rather than worrying about where to acquire the cash required to upgrade everything in the camp.

5 Worse: The Locations Are Bland

Saint Denis in Red Dead Redemption 2

One complaint about Valhalla is that the locations are bland, especially in comparison to those in Red Dead Redemption 2. There is so much diversity between the cities and various locations in Rockstar's game, while everywhere in England and Norway generally looks about the same.

Valhalla's locations can become monotonous after a while, unlike Red Dead Redemption 2 that manages to keep you eager to unlock the next area and discover what it has to offer.

4 Better: Watch Out For The Zealots

Eivor versus a Zealot in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

One of the major differences in the games is that Red Dead Redemption 2 has a wanted system depending upon how many criminal activities you perform. Valhalla, on the other hand, only has players worrying about the zealots traveling about an area.

It makes it easier to perform illegal activities in Valhalla, unlike Red Dead Redemption 2 where police and bounty hunters alike hunt you for committing too many crimes. This obviously depends upon the player, but it is one aspect that many find more agreeable in Valhalla.

3 Worse: Red Dead Has More Outfit Options

Arthur Morgan's outfits in red Dead Redemption 2

One disappointing fact about Valhalla is the lack of outfit options in comparison to past Assassin Creed games, which is something fans of the franchise had hoped to see.

This will probably change with time, but at the moment, Red Dead Redemption 2's characters are more customizable. This is especially true of its online platform, Red Dead Online, as an entire character can be customized from head to toe with various outfits available for both genders.

2 Better: A Unique Customization Option

You might not have access to many outfits in Valhalla, but Eivor can be customized with tattoos that can be found or bought in the game. Although not a huge feature in the grand scheme of things, tattoos are an appropriate and rather unique customization option that sets Valhalla apart from its contemporaries.

It helps make up for the fact that Valhalla is lacking in the outfit department, but it still doesn't excuse the game's lack of creativity in comparison to Red Dead Redemption 2.

1 Worse: Red Dead Can Be Played Online With Friends

Red Dead Online

The one feature that Assassin's Creed players are still waiting for is the ability to play online with their friends. It would be amazing to go through Ubisoft's open-world with a fellow Valhalla fanatic as you solve puzzles and complete quests together.

However, this feature is still unavailable in Valhalla; conversely, Red Dead Redemption 2 does have an online option in the form of Red Dead Online. It is disappointing that this has not been added, but Assassin's Creed fans continue to hope that the franchise will embrace multiplayer in future titles.
