An integral part of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is the skill tree, which enhances Eivor's style of play. These skills are most useful in combat, and players earn more of them throughout the game. There are so many for you to choose from that it can be tricky to decide which ones to acquire first.

Luckily, we can help you make that decision by laying out a few of the best skills from each branch available to you.

Updated July 19, 2022 By Ben Jessey: Ubisoft has regularly updated Assassin's Creed Valhalla since the game's initial release in 2020. The developers have added all sorts of missions and weapons within their various updates. Plus, they continually add new skills into the game, even for the people who haven't purchased any of the DLC.

And some of the skills are among the most useful in the game. They certainly deserve a spot on any list of Assassin's Creed Valhalla's best skills. So, we've updated the piece to include a few of them.

18 Idunn's Heart

Idunn's Heart is a passive skill that allows you to regenerate some of your health after taking damage. If you continually get attacked, you won't get much time to regain the hp. But if you take a bit of damage and then step away for a few seconds, it'll be like you didn't get hit at all.

Plus, the skill allows you to survive longer in frozen water as the damage you take from the cold is regularly healed. Overall, it's an incredibly useful ability to have throughout the entire game.

17 Cold Rage

To get the best results in combat, you want to unleash some deadly combos. Unfortunately, you rarely fight people one-on-one. There are typically other people around who will hit you in the back or side, which interrupts your attack. As a result, your combo is cut short.

To avoid this happening too often, you can acquire the Cold Rage skill. With this, you will automatically ignore any hits while landing continuous melee strikes. The ability isn't always active as it has a cooldown, but it's still a good skill.

16 Advanced Assassination

The power of the hidden blade has varied over the years. In the early games, it was a one-hit kill. Recently, though, that has not always been the case. In Valhalla, for instance, you can instantly assassinate the standard enemies, but the elite ones are sturdier.

However, with Advanced Assassination, you can also instantly kill the big adversaries. When you attempt to do so, a little circle comes on screen, and you have to time your button press. If you do it correctly, you kill the enemy. The timing is always the same, so it will eventually become second nature.

15 Breakfall

Breakfall skill in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Breakfall is a part of the Raven skill tree and it is perfect for players who are not the greatest at gauging the height of their fall. This will allow Eivor to perform an automatic roll when jumping from dangerous heights to reduce the amount of damage that is taken.

It will take you 12 skill points to get there, but it is well worth it to keep yourself alive when jumping from unimaginable heights.

14 Raven's Loot

Raven's Loot in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

If you are a fan of ranged attacks and prefer your Hunter Bow to a melee weapon then you should consider acquiring the Raven's Loot skill. This means that anytime you kill an enemy with a ranged attack your Raven will automatically go over and loot the dead body.

It is a great way to nab some extra coins and supplies when your power level is low, as well as make sure you conserve your arrow supply.

13 Power Stroke

This skill utilizes your stamina to give your longship a speed boost, which is perfect for the early game when you can’t fast travel to a bunch of areas.

It will make you faster and ensure that you don’t grow bored on the long trips downriver to reach the areas you need to get to, as well as perform well in the River Raids after you beat the game.

12 Parry Damage

Parry Damage in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Parry Damage is a great skill to have on hand as any successful parry will also deal damage. This is perfect for early in the game as it can be difficult to land a hit on higher-level enemies.

While parrying can be difficult for beginners, this guide can help you learn the mechanics so you can deal extra damage from the start.

11 Fight Ready

Fight Ready in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Fight Ready is one of the most useful early game skills as it fills one adrenaline bar before entering a fight.

This is a great thing to have when first starting out as you will only have one adrenaline bar available to you, and it can be difficult to refill. Some can play easily without it, but beginners may need the extra help that this skill will give them.

10 Stomp

Stomp skill in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

This ability is part of the Bear skill tree and it gives Eivor the ability to stop on an enemy's face if they are knocked to the ground. This usually finishes them, but at the very least it takes off a chunk of their health.

It is one of the best because it gives you another way to deal damage to an enemy and you don't have to waste time swinging your weapon to achieve it.

9 Adrenaline Upgrade

Adrenaline Upgrade skill in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

There is an adrenaline upgrade in each of the skill trees and it should be your goal to unlock them all as it can help you create an overpowered character. These are what you fill up in order to use your abilities, and one or two can be gone with the blink of an eye.

Even with four, it doesn't always seem like enough, which is why these should be one of the first skills you acquire when beginning to play the game.

8 Brush With Death

Brush With Death skill in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Elite enemies can be difficult to defeat head-on, but if you have a knack for dodging then you should focus on acquiring this skill. If you dodge an attack then time will slow down allowing you to land two light melee attacks or one heavy melee attack.

This is great at the beginning of the game when you don't have much to work with except for your skill as a fighter, and it can help you to defeat the harder zealots.

7 Auto-Loot

Auto-Loot skill in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

One of the most annoying things about the beginning of the game is that you have to loot each enemy after you kill them. This takes time that you often don't have, especially if there are several opponents in sight.

Luckily, there is an auto-loot skill so if you melee an enemy to death, then you will automatically collect their items. Your stash of silver will rise tremendously as no coin is left on a corpse ever again making it even easier to upgrade your settlement.

6 Stealth Recon

Stealth Recon skill in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

This is part of the Wolf skill tree and it is very useful when you are trying to sneak your way around an enemy fort. When you are crouched and undetected it will automatically highlight any enemies around you, which is great for several side quests throughout the game.

It will make it so much easier to stay undetected as you will know where your enemies are at all times around you because of this skill.

5 Berserker's Mettle

Berserker's Mettle is perfect for anyone who rushes headfirst into a fight with no regard for Eivor's health. This ensures that even if you take damage, you will not lose adrenaline in the process.

One tip is to upgrade your rations as well if this is your playstyle to ensure you always have enough health to finish a bloody fight. You just might want to ensure you have one of the best armor sets in the game before rushing into the fight.

4 Grit

You might find yourself constantly suffering from low health early on in the game, which is where this skill comes in handy. It will refill the red portion of your health bar for each successful melee hit you land on your opponent.

You might think you're at death's door, but then this perk kicks in and you are back and stronger than ever. It can also be helpful when fighting legendary animals as it will allow you to stay in the fight and avoid desynchronization.

3 Explosive Corpse

Explosive Corpse skill in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

It can be hard to be stealthy when you keep leaving so many corpses around. It is why this skill exists to allow you to plant explosives in the dead bodies you leave behind. The body will explode if anyone comes to investigate it, leaving them vulnerable to attack.

Pro players use this skill all the time because they understand its value when attempting stealth. This skill can be acquired by diving into the Raven sector of the tree, and there are plenty of great skills in this section to make it worth your while.

2 Chain Assassination

Chain Assassination in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Chain Assassination can also be found in the Raven skill tree and it will cause Eivor to throw an ax at a nearby opponent after completing one assassination. It can be very useful, especially if they start to detect you following the first kill, even if her accuracy doesn't make sense.

This is a great way to thin the herd at a location before jumping into battle with an entire army after your hide. It is also perfect for exploring new locations as you never know what to expect from your opponents.

1 Arrow Reinforcement

Arrow Reinforcement skill in Assassin's Creed Valhalla

This skill is great for anyone who is proficient with a bow and prefers to use this weapon over their melee weapons. It ensures that any arrows you shoot will not break and can be collected from downed enemies.

This is perfect for scenarios where extra arrows may not be on hand, especially when using a predator bow which allows you to carry a limited supply.
