Among many other brand new features in the Assassin's Creed universe, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla will apparently feature historically accurate Viking rap battles. So while your blade will certainly come in handy throughout the game's story, it sounds like your words will be used as a viable weapon as well.
Why might Assassin's Creed include such a feature? Well, because Viking rap battles actually happened. Historically known as "flyting", the traditional Norse competition consisted of exchanging insults in a poetic fashion, and it was widely practiced during the time period. Now, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla will look to recreate the tradition, and it'll be fun to see how flyting will tie into the game's open world.
Just like challenging someone to a game of Gwent in The Witcher 3, Valhalla might allow you to challenge random NPCs to an epic rap battle. Why waste the sharpness of your blade when you can defeat your enemies with rhymes? The game may even include a flyting skill that increases the more battles you partake in. It's unclear how exactly this feature will be implemented just yet, but it's pretty exciting nonetheless.
Flyting isn't the only new open world activity that Valhalla will introduce, either. Players will also be able to participate in hunting, fishing, dice, and drinking games, making it sound like there will be much more to do outside of story missions and side quests. This is great news for fans of the open world genre, as it sounds like Valhalla could be the most immersive Assassin's Creed to date.
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla will be the third entry in the series' unofficial reimagining, where open world mechanics and RPG elements really began to take center stage. Considering just how much fun Origins and Odyssey were, the player base certainly has high hopes for this next entry.
