Assassin's Creed Valhalla follows the Nordic Viking settlement of England from the perspective of a Nord. Popular manga Vinland Saga, meanwhile, follows early explorer Thorfinn as he seeks revenge for his father's death and bears witness to King Cnut's rise to power in the same region. With both things trading in the same setting and time period, then, a crossover would only make sense.
What's that? Valhalla's set in 873 AD, while Vinland's in 1003 AD? Eh, don't worry about it! When's Ubisoft cared about historical accuracy, anyway?
I digress. Today, Ubisoft announced the natural crossover on their Japanese Twitter account. According to Anime News Network, the promotion takes the form of a 7-page manga penned by Vinland creator Makoto Yukimura. This short piece showcases a brief encounter between Thorfinn and Valhalla's protagonist, Eivor, and is available for free right now.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Assassin's Creed has infiltrated the manga industry. Assassin's Creed: Awakening retold the events of 2013's Black Flag, while Blade of Shao Jun expanded on the underrated narrative of 2015's Chronicles. Titan Comics released the former in 2017, while Viz is taking on the latter's license in January of next year. No word on whether or not this short crossover will get the same treatment, however.
