Overall the Assassin's Creed series is about the endless conflict between the Assassins and Templars over the powerful Pieces of Eden.
However, each game also delivers character-driven narratives. So every protagonist must be likable enough that the player cares about their story. The writing, of course, plays a part in that, but the responsibility also falls on the shoulders of the ones providing the characters' voices.
Thankfully, the Assassin's Creed series has a strong track record of hiring the right people for the major roles. And these actors deserved to be recognized for the amazing jobs they've done to bring the main protagonists to life.
15 Original Altair (Philip Shahbaz)
Altair has a special place in fans' hearts, as he was the first protagonist in the series and one of the best Assassins in the Order. In the original game, he had to work his way back up the ranks after making a costly mistake.
Philip Shahbaz provided the voice for the character during his first outing. Although, the actor is more known for his live-action work in the likes of Grey's Anatomy, 24, and Californication.
14 Older Altair (Cas Anvar)
The legendary Altair reappeared in Assassin's Creed: Revelations as a playable character. His sections occurred sporadically throughout the game to show what happened after the events of the first game.
This version of the character had a different voice as Cas Anvar came in to provide the tones. Some might recognize him as Alex Kamal from the TV series, The Expanse. Gamers, on the other hand, might've heard him in Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Halo 4.
13 Ezio (Roger Craig Smith)
The main protagonist for Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations was the charismatic Ezio Auditore. Over the three games, Ezio went from a rebellious young Assassin to a legend of the Order. He took out some of the evilest Templars along the way.
Auditore is one of many characters that Roger Craig Smith has lent his voice to throughout his illustrious career. Some of the others include Arkham Origins' Batman, Captain America from the Avengers Assemble TV series, and countless characters in Regular Show.
12 Connor (Noah Watts)
Assassin's Creed III focused on the growth of Ratonhnhaké:ton, aka Connor Kenway. He started the game as a kid but quickly became a deadly Assassin. And with those skills, he set out to get revenge on the people who burned down his home village.
The actor who brought the character to life was Noah Watts. Watts had a five-episode stint on Ringer as Daniel Eknath. Also, he's appeared in popular series like Sons of Anarchy and CSI: Miami in his 15+ year career.
11 Desmond (Nolan North)
The longest-tenured protagonist in the series was Desmond Miles. In the first four games, he used the Animus to gain information and abilities by reliving his ancestor's memories. He hoped that he could use what he learned to save humanity.
The character is voiced by one of the most well-known voice actors in all of gaming, Nolan North. A few of his other iconic performances include playing Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series and voicing David in The Last Of Us.
10 Aveline (Amber Goldfarb)
Assassin's Creed's first-ever female protagonist was Aveline from AC: Liberation. In the game, she tried to put an end to the slave trade in New Orleans by assassinating its main perpetrators.
Series regular Amber Goldfarb was the voice behind the protagonist. A few of the other Assassin's Creed characters that Goldfarb has played include Cristina Vespucci, Angelina Ceresa, and Marie Lévesque. She's no stranger to live-action work either.
9 Edward (Matt Ryan)
Edward wasn't the series' most honorable person, but he was the central character in one of its best games, Black Flag. As a pirate, he didn't initially care about the Assassin or Templar Orders, but his affinity for the former grew over time.
The popular protagonist was portrayed by Matt Ryan. His face may be familiar to fans of the Arrowverse as he's appeared in a number of those shows as John Constantine. As for films, he's been in the likes of Layer Cake and Flypaper.
8 Shay (Steven Piovesan)
In a unique twist for the series, Assassin's Creed: Rogue featured a Templar as the main protagonist. Although, Shay Cormac actually starts the game as an Assassin but quickly becomes disillusioned by the Order. He then runs away into the welcoming arms of the Templars.
Shay's Irish tones were provided by Steven Piovesan in the actor's first-ever major role. Since then, he's appeared in a couple of shorts as well as a YouTube series called The Maple Syrup Files.
7 Arno (Dan Jeannotte)
Assassin's Creed Unity's main protagonist was Arno Dorian. The up and coming Assassin sought to uncover a typically nefarious Templar plot that led to the death of François de la Serre, the father of his closest friend.
The voice behind the character was that of Dan Jeannotte, who some may know as James Stuart from the series Reign. He's also had stints on shows like The Bold Type and Good Witch. Although, he started his career by voicing a couple of characters in Samurai Warriors 2.
6 Jacob (Paul Amos)
Jacob was one-half of the Frye Twins who caused many problems for London's Templar Order during AC: Syndicate. The cocky Assassin spent the game identifying and slaying the evil men who ran the city.
Paul Amos was the man who lent his voice to the boisterous killer and gang leader. In his career, Amos has appeared in several different films and television shows. The most notables projects he's been a part of include Designated Survivor and Warehouse 13.
5 Evie (Victoria Atkin)
Syndicate's other - and perhaps superior - protagonist was Evie Frye. Like her brother, she set out to loosen the Templar's grip on London. However, her focus was on acquiring the powerful Shroud of Eden to give the siblings an edge.
British people might remember Evie's voice actress, Victoria Atkin, from her time on the popular show Hollyoaks. She's also done her fair share of video game work, including portraying Mailen in Horizon Zero Dawn.
4 Bayek (Abubakar Salim)
Assassin's Creed: Origins marked a significant change for the series, but one thing that remained was its inclusion of a strong protagonist. Bayek took the lead role in this one, as he traveled around Ancient Egpyt trying to get vengeance on those who killed his son.
Bayek's voice actor Abubakar Salim has been a regular in multiple TV shows such as Raised By Wolves, Jamestown, and Fortitude. But he's also done shorter stints in series' likes Black Mirror and Strike.
3 Alexios (Michael Antonakos)
Alexios was one of two heroes that players could choose to control during Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. And throughout the game, he hunted down the Cult that destroyed his family.
During his adventure, the mercenary was voiced by Michael Antonakos. In a career spanning 15 years, the actor has appeared on some big shows such as Prison Break, Arrow, and Supernatural. He's done his fair share of movie work too.
2 Kassandra (Melissanthi Mahut)
Odyssey's other choice of protagonist was Kassandra. Like Alexios, she too tried to demolish the Cult of Kosmos for their sins against those close to her. While there isn't too much difference between the two lead characters, she's considered the star of the duo.
Her voice actor isn't as experienced, but Melissanthi Mahut still has multiple film roles on her resume. Most notably, she was in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. She also has a role in the well-received series, The Other Me: Lost Souls.
1 Layla (Chantel Riley)
Layla Hassan played a similar role to Desmond but in Origins and Odyssey. She lived in the present day and used the Animus to gather important data from the past.
Chantel Riley is the woman behind Layla's voice. Vocal work is rare for Riley as she has mostly live-action credits. Some of those include recurring roles on Frankie Drake Mysteries and Pearson. Assassin's Creed fans will actually hear her voice again as she's set to reprise her role as Layla in the upcoming Valhalla.
