Hardcore racing simulator Assetto Corsa Competizione will be racing onto PS4 and Xbox on June 23, 2020. Developer KUNOS Simulazioni and publisher 505 Games made the announcement over on the game's official forums and revealed plans for future DLC packs and car additions. A new trailer was also uploaded to show the game running on console hardware.

Anyone that pre-orders the console version of Competizione will be given access to the "Intercontinental GT Pack" when it releases. This will grant owners access to an exclusive challenge that will put their skills to the test. It also has an additional four tracks (Kyalami Grand Prix, Suzuka Circuit, Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, and Mount Panorama Circuit), 45 new liveries, 30 new teams, and 50 extra drivers.

As for what's next, an update in April will bring the PC version to 1.4 and will introduce a slew of new features. KUNOS mentions a showroom, but there will also be new driver and car personalization choices and some additional options for multiplayer matches. The GT4 DLC pack will bring 10 new cars and is set to launch in the summer on PC and fall for consoles. A winter DLC pack in the "British Pack" will add three new circuits and an additional race calendar to compete in.

Released last May for PC, Competizione is the sequel to KUNOS' 2014 original. Putting more focus on sports cars, the game was launched as a potential esports title with the hopes of drawing in a new audience. It hasn't made the biggest splash on PC, but these new console ports are bound to bring in an entirely new audience.

What remains to be seen is if either console port will feature race wheel support. There aren't many options on the market tailored specifically for PS4 or Xbox One, but racing simulators like Assetto Corsa thrive on providing those options. If relegated solely to a gamepad, the game is never going to feel quite right.

With the Xbox One featuring mouse and keyboard options, there's always hope that Microsoft's console will get unofficial wheel support. That would be a huge boon to the game since its current PC performance isn't exactly stable.
