Astro's Playroom is an adorable new platformer that will come bundled with all PlayStation 5 consoles. It's main purpose is to introduce you to the DualSense controller and all of its unique new features, however, it looks like it'll be much more than a simple tech demo. In a recent interview, Director Nicolas Doucet claimed that the title would have a playtime of roughly four to five hours.

The news comes from Famitsu, where Doucet further stated that four different worlds would be available to players (Cooling Resort, GPU Jungle, SSD Speedway, and Memory Sky) and that the entire game is filled with tributes to the PlayStation legacy. Once you've completed the main campaign, you can even dive into a Time Attack mode that features an online ranking system. We're not sure how much replayability that will give us, but it's great to see that Astro's Playroom is shaping up to be a robust title – despite being used as a way to showcase the new PlayStation controller.

Astro's Playroom is being developed by the same team behind Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, the critically acclaimed PSVR title. Each of the four worlds will introduce you to a new aspect of the DualSense controller – such as the new haptic feedback system and upgraded adaptive triggers. It's also built with Tempest 3D AudioTech in mind, showcasing the effort Sony has pumped into audio engineering for this generation of games.

Sony said that the title is meant to be "enjoyable for all," although Doucet thinks some of the PlayStation easter eggs hidden throughout Astro's Playroom might go over the heads of its younger audience. According to a translation of the Famitsu interview, Doucet stated, "I can't wait to see how you all enjoy this PlayStation tribute, and I can't wait to see your reaction, although it's been 25 years in the making, so some of the younger players may not understand some of it."

It's great to see Astro's Playroom getting the attention it deserves and that it will be more than a glorified demo of the PS5's abilities. Five hours of gameplay should be more than enough to get your through the first day of owning your next-gen console, and the Time Attack mode should keep you interested while building up your PS5 catalog.
