It seems that the long drought of Shin Megami Tensei V information will be ending soon, as the official Atlus Twitter page is hinting that the fans will learn more about the game this year.

Shin Megami Tensei V was first revealed during the premiere event for the Nintendo Switch back in 2017, and remains the only game revealed during that event to have not been released so far. Atlus has released almost no information about Shin Megami Tensei V outside of its name and a brief trailer that told us practically nothing about its characters or story. The fans keep expecting to see it appear in Nintendo Directs, but Atlus has kept tight-lipped about the game since release.

2020 might be the year when fans will finally get a chance to control demons on their Nintendo Switch, as Atlus has hinted on Twitter that more information about Shin Megami Tensei V will be revealed in 2020.

The silence regarding Shin Megami Tensei V led to a lot of speculation that the game had been canceled, as the lack of a trailer for a game that had already been announced was suspicious. A similar fate befell Metroid Prime 4, as that was announced and swiftly canceled/restarted without any footage being released. Cancellation seemed even more likely in light of the fact that many of the Nintendo Switch games that have been revealed during Directs and events were also released within twelve months of their announcement, including games like Astral Chain, Pokémon Sword & Shield, and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Thankfully, it doesn't look like the project has been dropped yet. While it doesn't it seems that Atlus won't be bringing Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal to the Nintendo Switch despite Joker's appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, at least fans will get their own Shin Megami Tensei exclusive in the future. The 2020 schedule for the Nintendo Switch is currently looking pretty bare, but any of those empty spaces could be the future release date for Shin Megami Tensei V.

Shin Megami Tensei V is currently in development for Nintendo Switch.
