Atomic Heart developer Mundfish has announced that it will no longer be able to meet its previously announced release date of late 2022 and pushed the game back to "this winter," most likely into next year.

Additionally, A Plague Tale: Requiem and Evil West publisher Focus Entertainment has announced a new partnership with Mundfish to help "make the upcoming game launch truly outstanding." Focus Entertainment has revealed in a new blog post (thanks, Gematsu) that the team at Mundifsh is using the extra time for "polishing" and promises a more specific release date will be announced "shortly."

"Focus Entertainment is thrilled to announce their partnership with video game development studio Mundfish to publish the upcoming Atomic Heart," reads Focus' statement. "Initially planned for 2022, the hectic and explosive Action-RPG is set to release this winter. Polishing and delivering a game of the highest quality is the priority of this talented team, with a specific launch date to be announced shortly."

Atomic Heart's previous release window was revealed back in February, although a specific month was never narrowed down as the date "#######ber 2022" was shown in the game's trailer. That date could still be accurate as the release window of "this winter" does include December of this year, although it's more likely that Atomic Heart will now launch in Early 2023 instead. This hasn't been confirmed though and Focus Entertainment has maintained it could still release this year.

If this is the first you're hearing of Atomic Heart, the game was announced quite a while ago but made a splash with a trailer released during E3 2021. It is a first-person shooter very reminiscient of games like System Shock and Bioshock, giving the players a choice of over-the-top weaponry as well as supernatural powers. Atomic Heart will launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X with a day one release on Xbox Game Pass.
