Avatar: The Last Airbender has taken the world by storm once again. Ever since it arrived on Netflix a few months ago, the show has received more love than ever. Newcomers are enjoying the show for the first time and existing fans are reliving their favorite moments.

But that begs the ultimate question: Why are we still without a truly great Avatar video game?

Sure, we had the tie-in games that were inevitable throughout the 2000's, but what about a game that takes full advantage of Avatar's world building and lore?  There's so much to explore within the Avatar universe and the TV show and comics only scratch the service. Think about what a game could accomplish.

It has the makings for a brilliant RPG style adventure where you create your own character and travel the world, learning more about your chosen bending as you go. This would give game designers the chance to make a completely interactive world where almost everything that surrounds you could be bended and manipulated. A player could feel in complete control and be absolutely immersed in the Avatar universe.

As you level up, your bending could improve. Earth benders could develop metal or lava bending, fire benders could shoot lightning, and maybe even blood bending could make an appearance. You could also develop the ability to enter the spirit world, giving developers more opportunities to create unique and different environments. And if they went The Legend of Korra route, the spirt world would be very different from the base game players start out in.

In a different scenario, there could be a game where you are put in the shoes of a brand new Avatar with your own individual story, but the idea of existing in the world just as everybody else is really appealing. You could have unique level progression based on whatever bending you have and maybe even run into some friendly faces from the show. They could give you tasks to complete or ask you to fight alongside them. There are plenty of stories to tell in the Avatar world, so who knows what cool scenarios developers could come up with.

The game practically makes itself and there are so many different directions you could take it. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on an Avatar fighting style game or even one that follows the story of the TV show with proper game mechanics and modern graphics. And while an Avatar game could reach higher than that in today's day and age, YouTuber Elca Gaming is currently creating an Avatar game completely in Dreams, the PlayStation 4 exclusive developed by Media Molecule all about game creation.

His project is said to cover the entire original series and is currently in development. According to his updates, he even has the original voice actors for Toph and Azula, Michaela Jill Murphy and Grey Griffin, interested in participating. He currently streams his progress on Twitch and posts highlights on his YouTube.

With The Legend of Korra arriving on Netflix on August 14 and a live-action adaptation of Avatar on the way, the hype surrounding the show won't be dwindling any time soon. So with the fandom resurfacing and continuing to stick around, it really does remind us how amazing an Avatar: The Last Airbender video game would be. And to be honest, it's quite surprising we don't have one yet. Somebody needs to get on this real quick so I can live out element bending dreams. It would be much appreciated.
