There was an idea. To bring together a group of extraordinary people, and make some hilarious memes.

Today we are diving head first into the magical, cosmic, and time-defying franchise, The Avengers. The cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Avengers are the team of superheroes from the MCU who band together to take on threats too large for any one hero to handle. From Loki and an alien invasion to Ultron and his robot army and now the impending war with Thanos and his Black Order, the Avengers have become a ragtag group of heroes who must put aside their differences to become the heroes the world needs. Comprised of heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, The Hulk, Scarlett Witch, The Vision, Falcon, Ant-Man, and more, the team has grown significantly since the first Avengers film, and so too have the threats to the world. Yet, despite all of these exciting components that lock the MCU into place, the franchise is not without its funny moments.

Whether we’re talking about the fact that Bucky’s beard grows drastically between each of his MCU appearances, to the fact that despite the shows being connected to the MCU as a whole, some heroes from television are excluded from the films themselves, and even the fact that more recently Hawkeye seems to have disappeared from the roster altogether, there are several memes out there that only true Avengers fans will understand. So grab your Quinjet and get ready to explore the funniest Avengers memes on the internet!

25 Miracle Beard

via QuirkyByte

One of the breakout stars of the MCU has to be Bucky Barnes. Played by Sebastian Stan, the character is Steve Rodgers best friend, aka Captain America’s best friend. Growing up together and fighting in the war together, Bucky was thought lost in the war, only to be found and turned into a Russian super soldier named The Winter Soldier, mind controlled into being their tool. Chris Evan’s Captain America has to fight to break his friend of the mind control and fight the world to protect his friend from being prosecuted for crimes he had no control over. In this meme, we see the Winter Soldier’s transformation not in personality, but in hair. Yes, that’s right, since his first appearance Bucky’s facial hair has grown significantly, to the point that fans think he’ll end up looking like Chewbacca from Star Wars by the fourth Avengers film.

24 Bieber Fever

via Meme Center

One of the biggest pop stars in the world in the past decade was Justin Bieber. His songs and personality were a huge hit with young pre-teens and teenagers, and yet his particular brand and personality was not something everyone fell in love with. His music really only stuck with a certain demographic and hasn’t quite transcended the barriers of the music industry like other pop stars before him.

Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no doubt that there’s a certain group of people who have a problem with the young pop star.

One group of people appear to be Marvel fans, as we see in this meme Tony Stark taking the missile meant to destroy Loki’s army and New York City as a whole not towards the portal like he did in the movie, but to Justin Bieber’s house, much to the joy of these SHIELD agents.

23 Pays To Be The Boss

via Know Your Meme

Being the boss of a company is never easy. Being in charge of making decisions that affect your business, your employees, and yourself, can take quite a toll on a boss. Depending on what kind of boss you are, you always want to believe that your employees view you a certain way, but the reality is not everyone is going to like a boss. In certain cases, no one is going to like a boss. The way your employees, your customers, and your business rivals view you is important as a boss, and this next meme does a hilarious job of incorporating the Avengers into this mode of thinking. Using this model, your employees view you as the Hulk, while your customers view you as Captain America and you view yourself as Nick Fury. Either way, you are some sort of hero in your business, so that’s something right?

22 Hawkeye’s Missing

via Dorkly

As we gear up for the Avengers: Infinity War premiere in just a few days, one thing fans have taken note of in all of the promotional material for the film is the absence of Hawkeye. Despite being a part of the cast, the archer is mysteriously missing from all of the trailers and photos released for the upcoming film’s release.

Hawkeye always seems to be getting the short end of the stick in the MCU.

First he gets brainwashed for half a movie by Loki, then he has to come out of retirement to fight evil robots and watch a new hero fall before him, and finally, he was arrested and is now on the run after helping Cap in the Civil War film. It’s disappointing to see him sidelined like this, but as Thor hilariously points out in this meme, is he all that important to the MCU?

21 A Hero’s Needs

via Comic Vine - Gamespot

One of the most recent Marvel hits, and by far one of the franchises' biggest films to date, was Black Panther. The story of T’Challa, the King of Wakanda and the hero known as Black Panther, resonated with a lot of people and made him one of the most popular heroes in the MCU. In the latest Avengers film, we’ve seen several trailers that feature him opening his borders for the Avengers to come hide and regroup in the battle against Thanos, leading to a major battle in the nation against the Mad Titan himself. In the trailers, he makes it a point to yell out for someone to get Cap a shield. In this hilarious meme, we also see Black Panther yell out to get Thor a hammer, and finally and the most hilarious of all, to get Ant-Man some orange slices. The miniature hero showed a new ability in Civil War when he grew into a giant man, and needed orange slices after he was taken down.

20 The Waiting Struggle

via Pinterest

Ever since fans found out that Marvel Studios was creating a connected cinematic universe that would feature several heroes interacting with one another, Marvel films have become a yearly staple in the world of superhero films. Fans have eagerly awaited to see heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor come out with films that would bring them closer and closer together to interacting in one large superhero team-up film.

This all came to a head when the first Avengers film was released, showcasing the heroes all meeting for the first time and coming together to stop the nefarious Loki and his alien armada from invading the Earth.

In this hilarious meme, Thor becomes the entire MCU fandom, with the fans demanding more Avengers films and the Marvel Studios heads (Tony Stark in this meme), telling the fandom that they would have to wait a while before the next team-up film released.

19 Heroic Identities

via QuirkyByte

The differences between heroes are always interesting to explore. Whether you’re looking at the MCU, the DC Universe, or any other comic book brand, heroes are defined by several various factors. Whether it’s by their humanity, their powers, or their personalities, heroes are always compared to their fellow heroes. This meme does an excellent job of showcasing this struggle. In the DC Universe, the Justice League is mostly comprised of powerful beings considered to be “gods” among men who all seek to be normal and considered human. Yet, in the MCU, the Avengers are made up of heroes who are mostly human and seek to become more powerful in order to stop the threats to Earth. Yet, in each case, there is one hero who is exactly what they claim to be, with Batman being the human in the DC universe and Thor being a “god” amongst men in the Marvel universe.

18 Mutant Beginnings

via Ultimate Comic Con

It might be weird to think about, but much of the MCU’s success and popularity with the superhero team aspect of their stories for the Avengers films is due in large part to the success of the X-Men films. That’s right, the FOX-owned (soon to be Disney and Marvel owned) superhero franchise X-Men really began the process of integrating various powered beings who must save the world despite the world mistrusting them.

The most powerful of all the mutants (or at least the most popular) is none other than Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman.

The clawed, super healing mutant led the way for superhero films, and in this hilarious meme, we see the way he influenced the Avengers films, telling Tony Stark that without him and the X-Men, the MCU wouldn’t exist today. It’s strange to imagine a world without the MCU, so we thank you Wolverine for leading the way.

17 Villainous Fan Girls

via Quotes And Humor

One of the most popular sibling rivalries the MCU has ever seen has to be that of Thor and Loki. Thor is the son of Odin, the leader of the Asgardian “gods." He is the god of thunder and wields a mighty hammer that can only be lifted by those worthy of holding it. His brother is Loki, the god of mischief. He is the adopted son of Odin, who adopted him after his war with the Frost Giants. This makes Loki part frost giant himself and has created a resentment for Odin. The two brothers have always been competitive, but the truth of Loki’s origins and his nefarious schemes have made them enemies time and time again. While Loki has proven to be helpful against other villains, such as the recent fight against Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, he is by far a villain, and yet as this meme hilariously points out, he has way more fans than Thor himself, the hero of the franchise. Everyone loves Loki.

16 Not Invited To The Party

via Ultimate Comic Con

While the entire world celebrates the heroics of the Avengers, there is one group of heroes who only work from the shadows or fight for the everyday people of New York City. Dubbed The Defenders, these street-level heroes are comprised of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and more recently, The Punisher. Despite Luke Cage and even Iron Fist being Avengers in the comics, these heroes have stayed relatively quiet in the MCU films, instead being featured in their own Netflix shows that exist in the MCU but aren’t featured in the films.

Despite their heroics and abilities, they have yet to interact with the Avengers as a whole.

It’s strange to me that they would make it a point to include their stories in the MCU without featuring the heroes meeting the Avengers, but that’s just me.

15 Infinity War Hype

via QuirkyByte

The incredible hype around the upcoming release of Avengers: Infinity War is very real. Not only are we getting to finally see the heroes fight Thanos and his Black Order, but we are witnessing the largest gathering of heroes in the history of cinema fighting against an all-powerful threat like the Mad Titan. I mean just sit and think about this for a minute. This has never happened in the entertainment world before. For longtime comic book fans, this is the stuff comic books are made of, and we’re finally witnessing a film done the right way that captures the same basic essence of the comic book world. In this vein, this next meme hilariously shows the lengths longtime fans of the MCU are willing to go to in order to find new footage. We see Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King’s It luring viewers into the sewers with the promise of new footage, and they go in willingly.

14 Marvel Character Explosion

via Ultimate Comic Con

The MCU is filled with some of the most iconic comic book characters in the world. From an American patriot hero like Captain America to the charismatic billionaire Iron Man and the anger-driven scientist turned monster The Incredible Hulk, the MCU is home to some of the best heroes in the business.

Each hero has featured their own cast of characters, bringing some original and some established comic book characters to life in these larger than life adventures.

However, one of the biggest draws for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War film is the sheer volume of characters that are going to be featured in the film. In this next meme, we see the super funny reaction we as fans felt expressed through comedian Kevin Hart after Scarlett Johansson reveals in an interview with Stephen Colbert that there are going to be 62 characters in the film, with half of them all featured in one scene. That’s simply amazing.

13 Missing Heroes

via Pinterest

It appears Hawkeye isn’t the only MCU character missing from Avengers: Infinity War’s promotional materials. You see Marvel as a company has made it a point to establish the connectivity between their films and television series. This not only includes the previously mentioned Netflix show heroes, but the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Inhumans. All these heroes are absent from a planet-destroying threat like Thanos. Imagine how useful Luke Cage’s unbreakable skin would be against the alien threat, or Black Bolt’s powerful voice destroying Thano’s army or even Quake’s powers leveling the alien invaders. These are powerful heroes that have been established to exist in the MCU, and yet they aren’t shown at all in any of the Avengers promos. Why wouldn’t Tony Stark, who supposedly keeps up on powered heroes, reach out to any of these establishments and heroes for help against Thanos?

12 Pun City

via QuirkyByte

One thing that the MCU doesn’t have an abundance of that you see a lot in the early days of comic books is the use of puns. Always used in classic comic books from the early days of Marvel, these little puns and quips were used to establish humor and wit into the fight between heroes and villains.

The comics have kind of shied away from this aspect of comic books, opting for more serious and mature writing and even more mature humor.

Modern-day MCU fans probably wouldn’t even think about the lack of puns in the movie’s writing, but the old school comic book fans will remember the days of these silly puns and how they drove much of the humor of these characters. In this hilarious meme, we see these puns come back with a vengeance, as we see Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America, all take turns shouting their best puns.

11 Matching Siblings

via Pinterest

One of the newest additions to the Odinson family in the Thor franchise is Hela. The evil Hela is not only the goddess of demise but the sister of Thor and Loki. Featured in Thor: Ragnarok, Hela appears after the loss of Odin and works to take over Asgard and start a campaign of war to conquer the universe. If I’m not mistaken, Hela was originally Loki’s daughter in the comics but was changed to his sister in this film. Seeing the god of mischief suddenly become less evil once his sister arrives is hilarious to watch unfold in this film. She takes out several Asgardian's without a second thought, and can only be defeated when Ragnarok is started. This meme does a hilarious job of showcasing the connection between Hela and Loki, with the two villains and Thor siblings both wearing green and black and being a royal pain to deal with.

10 The Name Game

via Pinterest

One of the strangest behind the scenes aspects of the MCU has to be the names of all the actors bringing these characters to life. In a massive franchise that spans multiple films, television and more, it’s not uncommon to see some of the actors share the same name.

However, fans of the Avengers have to recognize the hilarity of trying to talk to actors at press events, conventions and more when they share the same name.

Not only are there multiple actors named Chris, (Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Chris Pratt as Star-Lord), but there are now two actors named Tom (Tom Hiddelston as Loki and Tom Holland as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man). This next meme hilariously showcases the struggle panel runners have at big conventions with a cast this big. Imagine what it’s like at press events for this next Avengers film. Yikes.

9 The Chris Effect

via Pinterest

As we discussed before, the MCU has three different actors named Chris bringing heroes to life. There’s Chris Pratt, the hilarious yet action-driven leader of the ragtag group of heroes known as Guardians of the Galaxy. Then there’s Chris Hemsworth, the Australian actor who has expertly brought the drama and humor of the Asgardian god of thunder Thor to life. Finally, there’s Chris Evans, the leader of the Avengers and one of the original heroes the world has had in the MCU, Captain America. These three actors each have been in leadership roles, and have brought larger than life heroes to life. The funny thing about this meme is that they are referred to as the council of Chris. Not only does this make total sense for the behind the scenes aspect of the MCU, but in Hollywood, there’s a running joke about not only these three Chris actors, but actor Chris Pine as well.

8 The Arrow Guy

via Wattpad

No, not the DC/CW show of the same name. I’m talking about Marvel’s expert archer, Hawkeye. First introduced in the first Avengers film, Hawkeye is an expert government operative whose specialty is the bow and arrow. After spending half a movie under the control of Loki, he uses his skills to help the Avengers take Loki and his army down. Later he continues to show his expert espionage skills when he helps hide the Avengers from Ultron, and later takes a stand in defense of Cap in the Civil War storyline.

He’s an expert with an arrow, and not only seems to have an endless supply of them but has an arrow for every occasion.

This has been a long-running joke in the comic books, as at some point the archer would run out of arrows, and then what would he do? In this meme, we see he’s so prepared with his arrows that he can even toast bread with one.

7 Emotional Roller Coaster

via Pinterest

To say that fans of the MCU are a little excited about the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War film would be a massive understatement. The entire fandom is incredibly excited to see this large group of characters assemble together for what is sure to be the most epic film in MCU history. The film will see the most powerful foe in the universe take on the heroes of the MCU, with Thanos the Mad Titan coming to Earth to take what he believes is his, the Infinity Stones. This battle coming to the MCU is sure to be filled with epic action and tense moments, the stuff all comic book fans have been dying to see unfold for nearly a decade. However, this meme hilariously shows the roller coaster of emotions fans are going to experience, as fans are both excited and terrified to see what happens in this upcoming film.

6 Brotherly Hate

via Imgur

As we’ve touched upon before, the intense rivalry between Thor and Loki has dominated much of not only Thor’s film franchise, but the MCU as a whole. The two immortal beings and Asgardian gods have always had a competitive streak about them. For years they were simply brothers who fought about the proper way to go about things or competed for their father’s approval.

Loki always came in second to Thor, the stronger and typical Asgardian god.

Loki was always presented as slightly weaker and not as athletic, yet, had a cunning mind that he used to trick the god of thunder often. Once their rivalry turned into a villain/hero relationship, their fights got way more intense. In this meme, we see life before the villain/hero relationship, with Loki pulling his mischievous pranks on Thor and telling him that their father hates him, basically.
