Back 4 Blood provides you with an array of various utility accessories to verse yourself with, including offensive items. These items will be beneficial when the enemies keep coming and ramp up the difficulty of your run. Because of this, extra tools you can get your hands on will be crucial to keep your character standing.

The offensive items all work a little differently, each with its own benefits best suited for specific circumstances, like the firecrackers that divert enemy attention or the Molotov, which simply sends them up in flames. Different conditions call for different attack plans, but there are offensive items that are more useful than others.

6 Pipe Bomb

Back 4 Blood. Explosion in the background. Pipe bomb details on screen.

The pipe bomb is a fantastic tool for drawing enemies away from your location and providing you with some extra firepower, as the bomb eventually explodes after a short period of time. However, the ease of using this is halted a bit since if you or one of your teammates are too close to the enemies as the pipe bomb explodes, and there's an Exploder there, for example; you very well could be worse off than you would've been if you just shot the zombies instead.

The pipe bomb will come in handy now and again, but it's not worth spending your copper on; if you find one while searching for loot, feel free to pick it up. Otherwise, there are better offensive items to cash out.

5 Flashbang

Back 4 Blood. Zombies stunned by flash grenade. Big blue beaming light on screen as well as flashbang details.

Every game out there has some form of a flashbang weapon for you to use, so it makes sense that they're usually excellent at turning the tide in your favor. And in Back 4 Blood, this is true; however, it won't be as valuable as flashbangs in other zombie shooters - the main reason is that it doesn't disorient enemies as much as you might hope.

The flashbang is nice to have with you, and it's not an item you should avoid altogether, but it doesn't hold a candle to some of the other more potent offensive goodies out there. A lot of the time, when you finally equip the flashbang, the oncoming enemies are already gnawing at you. It's just not the most helpful tool out there.

4 Razor Wire

Back 4 Blood. Gun sight aimed at a zombie with razor wire on the floor. Razor wire details on screen.

Which person out there decided it would be a good idea to make zombies in video games so fast? In other forms of media, they're usually slow but deadly, however, cut to a video game, and it's like trying to win a race against an angry mob of shoppers on Black Friday. You can curb this by placing a razor wire. It will be sure to save your skin time and time again - it's a great tool used to slow down enemies that walk through it. (They're not very good at dodging.)

If you have one with you and zombies are rushing in from all angles, plant a few around you to slow them down to what is essentially a crawl.

3 Frag Grenade

Back 4 Blood. Explosion on screen. Orange fire overtaking zombies. Frag Grenade details on screen.

A frag grenade is precisely the type of tool that will be helpful all across the board; there's rarely a problem in Back 4 Blood that can't be solved by throwing one of these suckers. The accessory deals a large amount of damage in a small area, which is stellar since the zombies of Back 4 Blood have quite the knack for huddling together, making it easier to pour your bullets into them or throw a really handy grenade at their feet.

It's also one of the cheaper offensive items you can buy, coming in at only 150 copper. So stocking up on these may be beneficial.

2 Firecrackers

Back 4 Blood. Pistol aimed at the zombies huddling around some birds. Dark outside. Firecrackers details on screen.

What makes the firecrackers so convenient is just how effective they are at leading enemies away from your location. If you're going up against a relatively tough group of zombies and want to take it slow, firecrackers are neat since they make stealth a bit easier, but they also work well for driving away enemies who are running towards you in droves.

Often when using the firecrackers, even if a zombie is heading right for you, they'll still leave to follow the sounds of the weapon. It's incredibly useful for the hold-up missions in particular. Not only will the firecrackers prevent you from being backed into a corner, but they may also save you some bullets if you can draw several zombies to one location and throw an explosive their way.

1 Molotov

Back 4 Blood. Doc holding Molotov. Foggy surroundings. Molotov details on screen.

Using Molotov grants you the benefit of burning enemies, making them more perceptible to damage, and the area of injury is pretty good for how cheap they are to buy (150 copper). You're likely to find these accessories throughout Back 4 Blood's maps, too, so it's not always necessary to buy them. These trusty tools will help you out of the tight spots and bring the idea of level completion closer to reality.

It's a good thing the zombies of Back 4 Blood are easy to set alight, but you do have to be careful not to set yourself or your teammates on fire accidentally. We've all made that mistake before.
