Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance got its remastered re-release last year, and now it's time for Dark Alliance 2 to receive the same treatment. Interplay Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast have just announced Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 is coming to current-gen consoles and PC next week.

Originally released for the PS2 and Xbox in 2004, Dark Alliance 2 picks up with the heroes of the first Dark Alliance captured by the evil vampire Mordoc SeLanmere, who plans to take over the town of Baldur's Gate. After ingratiating themselves to the town, the five heroes of Dark Alliance 2 must return to Baldur's Gate to defeat Mordoc, who has transplanted his tower and zombified the entire city.

Dark Alliance 2 offers five playable characters to start, including Dorn Redbear the human barbarian, Vhaidra Uoswiir the drow monk, Ysuran Auondril the moon-elf necromancer, Borador Goldhand the dwarven rogue, and Allessia Faithhammer the human cleric. Two more famous D&D characters, Drizzt Do'Urden and Artemis Entreri, are unlockable after beating the game on different difficulties. All characters are fully-voiced and customizable with different weapons, armor, spells, and equipment.

One of the new features added in the sequel is the ability to create custom weapons and armor by placing runestones and gems. These runestones will improve a certain aspect of the weapon or armor, while gems will further enhance that effect.

Much like the first game, Dark Alliance 2 is a hack-and-slash action RPG along the same lines as Diablo 2. The remaster launching next week will feature updated graphics including native 4K support, and has been fully verified for the Steam Deck. Steam users will also have Remote Play options, and every platform will have local co-op.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 releases on July 20 on Steam, GOG, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

If you're looking for the most modern Dark Alliance game, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance offers third-person loot-based action that's certainly an evolution of these older Baldur's Gate titles, although some might not consider the most recent Dark Alliance an upgrade.
